Default Thank you notes

I wanted to generate a thread about thank you notes.

How long should thank you notes be?
What exactly should they say?

Well, I'm not Emily Post of course, but I tend to write a short, simple paragraph. In it I'll specifically state what I am thankful to the person for and quickly what it's meant to me. Something like this:

Quote:
Dear [Friend],

Thanks so much for the movie tickets. I so enjoy watching movies, but so rarely have the time or funds to do so. You've given me the gift of a relaxing and fun Saturday afternoon which is greatly appreciated!

Sincerely,
ATC

I agree - short handwritten notes go a long way. It's not that you pour your heart out onto paper, but that you simply express yourself in a heartfelt way... and that can be done in as little as one sentence.

At work, I've written thank you notes and they go a LONG way - especially when working with somebody new.

When the potential employer writes back to thank you for the thank you note, should you write back to say something like you're welcome or just leave it alone?

In my opinion, there isn't a need to reply to the employer thanking you for your note.

They should probably say "Thank You." You could even personalize them with the person's name.
