Default I am to lazy

I have a problem. I'm to lazy for my own good.

I have exams right now and I get up every day at 10am, turn on my computer, watch TV, do nothing, ... just because I'm to lazy to study.

It's not just with studying. I'm always to lazy to do anything and I postpone everything!

I know most of you who read this are thinking; "Get a life and just do something about it!" But I really don't know how I could become less lazy.

Can anyone help me please?

I can't help because I am the same way. I postphone everything, I could be writing my college essays right now, but I will do it later. I then spend my time on the computer or out, my work to time ratio was only 10% yesterday!

help us please..

Like Tony Robbins said, "you're not lazy, you just have impotent goals."

Your goals simply don't fire you up. Think about that.

It's because you are more motivated to "being lazy" and you are sending these thoughts to your mind.

According to the law of attraction, thoughts produce things. So, if you intend to be lazy, then you are manifesting your laziness.

I used to be like that and at one point, I was sick of being sick of doing things at the last minute and procrastinate. So I decided to take action, and the first thing I did was searching for online articles about time management or buy books on time management.

If you want to stop the laziness so badly, you'll find a way

Since I have implemented good habits of doing things on time for over a year, I'm already working on my thesis even though most students are on holidays and won't think about it until March/April 2007

How about coming up with affirmations and repeat them out loud for 10-15 minutes every morning?

Something like, "I am managing my time effectively and accomplishing things on time", etc.

It may sound weird at first, but as you do that on a daily basis, it works!

Another way is to write the affirmations 10-20 times in a row.

Start with I, then You, He/she. It's based on Shakti Gawain's book Creative Visualization

"I, [Your name], am managing my time effectively"
"[Your name], you are managing your time effectively"
[Your name] is managing his/her time effectively" and try that for 30 days based on Steve's method

Embrace the laziness inside of you.

Go read The Lazy Way to Success by Fred Gratzon. It's a great book, you can find him on google, he has a blog as well!

(this book is great, and my post is sort of semi-serious) ;-)

What you can do is this: Switch on your computer, go to this forum and write: "Good morning, I'm up and today I'll be studying throughout the day.' Then open one of your books. Read a paragraph. Then turn to the forum again and write a short summary of what you have just read. I think what you need is somebody you can communicate with. Most people are like this. That's why the vast majority of people have jobs rather than being self-employed.

Can you give us more info-- What specifically prevents you from studying/working right now?

For example, if you feel overwhelmed by the amount of material you have to learn-- Try studying (just pick up the book at look at it) for 5 min. Then give yourself a break doing something you enjoy. Then try it for 10 min., 15min., until you get to 20 min. Don't worry about mastering the material right now, just get in the habit of picking up the book, recognizing the anxiety you have about all the material, and then feel the anxiety subside. FYI: Studies have shown that anxiety tends to subside in 15min if you continue to be exposed to the stimulus (obviously, not a life-threatening flight/fight stimulus).

If you just feel like TV is more interesting, refer to the Tony Robbins quote above. Your goals right now aren't important enough to you.

Further to Flame's post, try Merlin Mann's (10+2)*5 procrastination hack. It's brilliant.

Quite often in situations like this I find it's important to just start, and build up some momentum. Once you're moving you'll find it a lot easier.

Journalling is good too. Rewrite your goals every morning, I find this really helps me get started.

Your subconscious mind hears everything you say and think and then takes action to make it so. While you continue to tell yourself you are lazy and also tell anybody who reads this forum you will remain lazy.

Why don't you start by telling yourself and everybody else that you are a proactive person and when you want something done you do it without letting anything else get in your way.

You might be surprised at what happens when you change your thoughts and your words. If at first you don't believe what you are saying about yourself, don't worry, just keep saying it anyway and see what happens.

You are proactive!

Cheers,
John

@ JJP
Yes I know your right, I don't have any goals that I'm willing to work hard for. I don't have any interests or passions.
I only study because I have to, because my parents want me to get a degree.
I really don't know how I could change this

@ Ann
Maybe I'll try the affirmations. I've heard a lot of people who had good results with this, but I just never get around to writing them down, or saying them aloud.

@ openmind
Yes, that's the only way that would work for me, if I had someone sitting next to my all the time, checking up on what I'm doing. But my friends don't want to study with me, because they all think I'll "drag them down with me". And I really can't do my whole exams boring everybody to death on the forum telling them what I just studied
(by the way, I live in Belgium, so most of you will be sleeping when I get up )

@ Flame
I don't think watching TV or sitting behind my laptop is more interesting, but it's more fun. Even cleaning my room is fun when I have exams ...

But yesterday I read some blog posts about self-discipline and have set up a schedule. I'd actually have to start studying in 20 minutes, but first I have to clean my room, because it's a mess and I can't study in it.
But here I am on my laptop, waisting time again ...

I'M HOPELESS!

There are a zillion books on procrastination. Many take different approaches, good approaches. One is bound to work for you. Once you are done with the semester begin checking them out. I like "Overcoming Procrastination" by W Dryden.

I also suffer from not doing my work on time and having low self esteem. One thing I am trying is to decide at the start of the hour what I promise to finish by the end of the hour. I then am going to chant, a Buddhist chant: Nam Myo ho renge Kyo for 20 minutes Soka Gakkai International : Home. Asking the universe to support me to manifest my intentions without interruption. This will hopefully give me the energy and the wisdom to work for 40 minutes. A friend from Japan learnt how to be a pilot by using this method and overcoming his lack of confidence, he now is am Airline pilot in Spain. In this way I hope to break the habit. I read a book by the late Richard Carlsun: Stop thinking and start living. He says that negative thoughts and negative memories need to be deleted, do not analyse them, just as you do not read junk mail either. It is counterintuitive, but thinking about why or what brings about procastination or beating yourself up with worry and fear does not help change it, so stop punishing yourself.

See the procastination as you not separate from yourself. This means you have to change, do not blame the TV or other distractions. Change your environment, going to a library will help.

You can consider taking natural remedies like epa VegEPA - epa diet supplement with no dha, for wellbeing, health, arthritis, dementia, depression, me, cfs, dyslexia, dyspraxia, pmt, brain power. Also omega, omegaforce, vegeco, minivegeco, puri, vitamin, minerals, fats, cofactors, fish oil

Please also consider taking this seriously, unless you can see possiblity of change there will be no passion or energy to be the change you want.

When we are not serious about something we let it go on for ever.

I have yet to win, but I know every winter turns to spring so never give up, you are worthwhile and you deserve happiness.

Promises or determinations can be very powerful to strengthen your life force.
As long as they are not meant to hurt you. So take baby steps at first, be kind to yourself. Compassion is the answer in the end. See yourself as part of the universe, see yourself contributing to the universe by your wise action of keeping your promise to yourself.

Ultimately there are deep rooted fears, coming from our animal brain. Courage to concentrate is a learned habit so please be patient. the chanting will help bring out courage, compassion, wisdom and energy from your life. The fear of failure means you sabotage your exam preparation, so you can explain the results. It is a negative way of controlling your destiny. you will be able to explain your results. '' I duid not study for the exams''. But deep down reasons do not help you, you are the only one who is really suffering. Sabbotage can take the form of anger, you want to get back at authority figure, again you are the one who will suffer a lot more then your victim. Sabbotage can be as a result of dislike for yourself, a form of punishment for not being good enough or past disappointment. Sabbotage can be as a result of fear of success, because sucess means more responsiblity.

But the great thing is that you do not need to know what isa the cause of your sabbotage, only thing that will matter is solutions. This is where you need to focus your attention. As you pay more attention to your victory, the universe will support this intention.
Even if you fail today, start tomorrow with the attitude: A new day, a New Challenge and A new victory.

gratitude is also a great way to break this habit. for 10 minutes before going to sleep, think of all the things you are greatful for. physical things like your eyes as well as your relationships. Write a letter each day of the small things, where you won. Victory is a great motivator, they do not need to be big victories. do not campare yourself with others, counting your neighbours wealth will not make any difference to you.

Chew each bite 30 times, eat in silence without any distraction from talk or TV. This will help you focus your energy.

You alone can change this, you have the power to change.

Good luck, sorry it is long and philosphical, but I have also suffered a lot from this and want to help you to reduce your suffering quickly.
When you win, share your victory and encourage others to be hopeful and never give up, life is precious, never have regrets about the past or fear of the future. Live for today and tomorrow. Life is eternal be happy and enjoy every moment of your journey. Happiness is not a destination, it is a state of mind to be managed from moment to moment positively. Absolute happiness now is possible, all prisons are prisons of the mind.
