Hey all, This summer I got way into personal development, bought Steve's book and read a bunch of his articles, and got feeling pretty good about myself. I got over a tough breakup and was feeling better than I've ever felt: productive, confident, motivated, joyful, clear-headed, etc. I believe that this was the product of a steady job, plenty of time to self-reflect, regular exercise, and the shift to a vegetarian diet. However, school has started back up and I've slipped way back into a very uncomfortable place. I forget things within 15-30 seconds of thinking of them, I am unable to hold my concentration on even moderately difficult tasks, I have trouble motivating myself to do simple things like get out of bed, and I feel disconnected from the world around me, like I'm sliding through life in a fog, kind of out of phase with the rest of the world. I haven't been exercising, I haven't been sleeping enough, and I've been skipping class regularly. However, I have been working plenty and keeping myself busy, but I feel as though I don't have enough time to get everything done, and as I slip further into this mindfog state it takes me longer and longer to do anything. I've put in my two weeks notice for the job that's keeping me up until 3 every night, and I've contacted my professor to figure out a way to get caught back up with my class, but I need a way to refocus my life and manage my time so that I don't implode any further. Any help you can provide would be very appreciated, and I'd be happy to share more details if you think it would help. Thanks so much! - Captain R.D. Obvious |

Hi Captain R.D. Obvious You must feel a bit disheartened about your situation but don't give up hope! I think this is a very common story for a lot of people. Me included. It starts with very good intentions, a burst of positive energy and action, and then a slippage back to 'old ways' and 'old habits'. When I've experienced this, I've had to look at whether the changes are want are important enough to me, and if I believe I can achieve them. Sometimes at the conscious level we believe, but under the skin we have the voices in our head telling us we can't. Inside the depths of our heads, we have beliefs that tell use we will fail. I've turned to the Law of Attraction, discussed heavily on this forum. If you can build strong beliefs that you can achieve your goals, then this is a good start. You also need to remove the beliefs that you will fail. Very important. Once you've begun this process, it will accelarate. I'm not going to go on about the Law of Attraction because it's covered here, and I think Paul Piotrowski on his blog InspiredMoneyMaker explains it better than I could, so take a look at that. You could also try setting yourself many more small goals rather than one big one, as this will have a better effect as you gain more confidence and belief at each milestone. Good luck! P.S. Just spotted this great post on Maria Gajewski's blog Never The Same River Twice where she talks about decision making that sticks and procrastination: Changes That Stick: 3, 2, 1...Action! | Never the Same River Twice Last edited by simonsta; 10-30-2008 at 03:14 PM.
