Hello

I'm a student and I have a lot of problems with learning. Now I'm in my 3rd semester but it has been a struggle from beginning and still is. I would like to finally get on the "fast track" where I would feel that I've figured it out and that accomplishing my goal is just a matter of time. Right now even when I'm successful with my exams, even if I manage somehow to get myself to study it isn't temporary and I still don't feel that I have figured it out. It's always one step forward two back, two forward, one back. I fell I'm not making substantial progress, I don't see "the fast track".

I didn't yet read Steve's book but from reviews and his interviews I think I understand the basics of his book or the three core principles of his model.

As I see it I don't have a problem with truth, I think I'm well aware of my situation and my lack of learning.
The power principle; I'm not as aligned with power as with truth but there were many times where I worked somehow on building my self discipline, my concentration, or focus and I even made some progress (I passed some exams) but the problem is that it never was a temporary change. Doing 30-day trials just didn't work, because most of the time I couldn't get my self to the second or even first day, but even when I'd put together some solid time of learning (days or weeks) it always had an end and I was back at the beginning.
So that leaves me with love. Actually listening to Steve's interview with "The displaced African" where he mentioned that love was the missing link to managing to finally change to raw diet I thought that that could be also my missing link.

I don't feel I'm connected with my learning. I never talk with my friends from university about learning, at the best we mention it when we accidentally get to talk about deadlines or after exams, but that's about it. At one point I tried to get together with them to learn together but they didn't feel that idea at all. Basically our university learning is a private thing.

So my question is: what do you think about forming an online student group as a way of making that connection that is necessary? As a way of providing that love factor if you are missing that one? Is it a good idea?

Am I even right with my understanding of the model and my situation?

I'm not sure how all of this would work, but as I see it, basically we would form a private forum, 6-10 people and talk about our learning experience. Maybe give each other advices and just be part of a group that is focused on making sure that we pass our exams

Thank you for reading.

You can count me in. I did college once, and now I'm back for a career change.

I love learning, but I do struggle sometimes. I'm the perfect combination of procrastinator and perfectionist.

My big problem is that schoolwork always seems to take much longer than it should. I'm only taking 4 credit-hours this semester, but some nights all I do is homework. Maybe I work slower than other people, I don't know? My current goal since returning to college as an adult is to maintain as close to 4.0 GPA as possible, and so far I am doing pretty well.

I think you're exactly right, Polag. I've read Steve's book and I've been thinking the same thing in relation to study - where's the love? I can bring truth and power to my studies but I find it very difficult to connect with it emotionally.

I think a support forum is an excellent idea! We can work together to 'love' our studies We can also let each other know what assessment we have, so there is accountability and work through any issues we have in doing that assessment. Perhaps we could also do a 30 day trial together of a certain amount of work being done daily?

There are quite a few study groups for the subjects I'm taking, but they either turn into in-depth technical discussions, or gossip sessions. Towards exam period most people seem only interested in cramming as much as they can, instead of trying to really understand the material (I am guilty of doing this too).

I've got 2 weeks left of lectures, then a study week and a two week exam period, so 5 weeks total. I have ridiculous amount of catching up and work to do in that time. What do you guys have left to do?

I'm in the same boat - I've actually started a 30 day trial to try and get a certain amount of work done each day. I would love to be in a group together with you guys, I think it would be a great idea, we can encourage each other.

Ok, I have created a forum for this.

There passed some time from the first post to now. At one point I gave up on this, but today, after thinking the last couple days again about the social factor in the learning process, I realized, again, that this could have a major impact, so today I decided to find a place to organize this and just do it.

From this topic you can already see what this student group is about. For more information visit

Online Student Group

I invite everybody who is interested in learning, all students wanting to improve their results in school or university to consider this idea and if you think that this could be helpful then join because together we can progress much faster.

If you have more questions or comments please feel free to post them.

Thanks

Online Student Group - Improving study skills by connecting students

I've already done the exact same thing at school. Why not start another online. You can count me in. I'd love to participate.

I'm the exact same as you.
Everything form the perfect perfectionist and procrastinator to the kid who takes forever to finish his work but does well.
It's cool, though. We can figure out that procrastination issue together

My niche website I'm building with SBI will probably revolve around this theme, of increasing intelligence and living consciously as a student. Needs more refinement still.

Well unfortunately it seems that there are not enough people who are interested in this idea. Only 2 people registered but without much communication this can't provide value.

This is just a last try to get this topic active so maybe some student will see it. If not then never mind. I tried at least.

I'm interested in an online study group. I'm a freshmen at a Dutch university, majoring in Computer Science. So far I've gotten only very good marks, so I'm quite happy. However I feel my motivation is dropping a little. I'm willing to try anything that could possibly help me. An online student group seems like a good idea, I hope there will be enough people.

An online student group sounds like a great idea! My motivation for school is at an all time low right now (to the point where I'm willing to get a B, which is not good for me)

Default A "study buddy" ?

I just got your private message Polag a few days ago - I don't really check that thing and it didn't show up in my email. Anyways -- I feel like the group idea is not for me, but if someone wants to exchange emails, and then hold each other accountable on a daily basis for their work, and just really push each other to do well, I would love to do that. We can succeed if we push each other to be our best.

Just a thought. I would love to start doing this with someone asap if anyone's willing and really committed to doing it?

WadudaNura - That's exactly the kind of motivation I need right now. I'd definitely be interested in your mutual accountability buddy system!
