Default Someone read Goals! by Brian Tracy? Have a question.

Brian Tracy advices readers to write their 10 most important goals down every day. I have a question though, what kind of goals should I write?

Should I write 1 month goals? 1 year goals? 5 year goals? 10 year goals?

If I remember correctly, Brian specifically mentions 5 year goals. But what can one possibly gain from writing and rewriting such very long term goals every single day? Isn't once every week enough?

Once every day sounds reasonable for shorter term goals like 1 year.

So basically I'm not sure really how much long term goals this method of writing every day applies. Any ideas?

No. The daily writing exercise is to be done quite spontaneously. You are not supposed to plan it. Just write, let it all come loose. It's meant to program your subconscious mind.

I think this could be a good activity, to turn into habit, and a great way to effect your subconscious mind to be focused on your goals.

I would generally define goals in not more than 6 months. Otherwise you loose focus. Find out the 5 most important long-term goals in your life. The span should be serveral years to accomplish otherwise the goals are probably not big enough. That's important, because you need to recognize the big picture, the background of what makes you do what you do.When you are sure about your overall purpose you narrow it down to defined steps. Make it weekly accomplishments.

I think the excercise of Brian Tracey is just meant to laser-focus you on your goals. So I think he means that you keep in mind your overall purpose and that you align your weekly tasks with that and don't lose track: the longterm goals about serveral years.

I did this daily writing of goals for a good 5 months straight earlier this year after listening to an audiobook where Brian Tracy suggested the same thing.

The results were astounding and amazing. A few things I'd write down every day, yet did very little concrete toward it as I hadn't gotten around to it, all of a sudden manifested. I'm sure it wouldn't have manifested had I not been writing it down daily with the belief it would happen eventually.
Not everything I wrote down manifested, but enough did that I found amazing.

I did set my maximum timeline to be 1 year from now. Even then some stuff I had put down for 1 year from then happened only 3 months down.

I find it useful too.
It magnetizes my mind with what I want to accomplish. And the progress is visible.
