Default Can't motivate myself to improve myself

I'm using Remember The Milk to keep myself on track. It's a great tool to help me remember what I need to do. Since I've started using it, I've had a much easier time remembering my promises to others, keeping appointments, doing chores, and so on. My problem is that when I add projects or tasks to improve my own life, I can't motivate myself to do them. I freeze up, and suddenly all of the little things and appointments with other people look very good to do, even if I know I'd enjoy doing them less than the stuff I want to do for myself.

I know this is because I have this belief that I'm not worth it -- I'm not worth improving. Rationally, I know this is false, but unless I get constant reassurance and motivation that I deserve to improve myself, it doesn't work. I even have a Paraliminal called "You Deserve It!" that addresses this problem, but I don't listen to it much because I dislike its spiritual overtones. Are there any other techniques or advice that I can use to address this problem? Perhaps there is something I can listen to to motivate me to improve my life?

Who are you not to deserve it? You are everything to deserve the finest things in life. Believe it mate. Go see this speech by Al Paccino. Hope it will help to inspire and motivate you in life.

When you've got something new, your mind usually doesn't like it. That's why change is hard. It's easy to change that though... Visualize your end goal. Feel how accomplished it feels to have done it. As you do this, straighten your posture, breathe deeply, and smile. If you do this a few times a day, you'll find yourself automatically smiling, breathing deeper, and feeling good every time you think about it. This will become the motivation for you, your goals will become pleasant to think about, and to do

Good luck!

First of all, I recommend you to listen to Anthony Robbins "Awaken the Giant Within" audio or to read the book. Its really a wonderful book. It tells you a lot about how to motivate yourself in times which you are experiencing now.

Amazon.com: Awaken the Giant Within : How to Take Immediate Control of Your Mental, Emotional, Physical and Financial Destiny!: Anthony Robbins: Books

One idea that I use to motivate myself is to write down what I want to achieve and write a lot of reasons about how this goal or task does this to me if I achieved it. I usually read this every morning to increase my desire to do the tasks that lead to that ultimate goal.
Another book that I use is called "The mind accelerator Book",which is also good.

OOO.... I also use RTM. But I admittedly got away from following the daily goals because my life is just too unpredictable.

I think you may have two things going on:

One, you may be trying to change too much at a time. Changes come in tiny little baby steps. Pushing it will cause resistance. Can you break the change down into smaller and smaller goals, then just take one day at a time?

It also sounds like you're tending to feel discouraged or have self esteem issues. When you address this, meeting your improvement goals will come much easier.

i am in the same boat mostly because its becoming winter and i tend to slow down more in winter. but some things that help me when i need a boost of energy is the
hermetic concept of polarity
Polarity,
David Allen’s getting thing done philosophy
David Allen: Getting Things Done | dotSUB
mirror meditation:
basically just meditation while looking at your self in the mirror
or just watching a good movie that is that has an opposite energy of how you feel (ex: if your sad watch something funny or light hearted if your board watch something that is exciting ect.)
sorry so brief of an explanation hope the links help ect.)
