Default Left-Right brain communication

Hi everyone.

I didn't know which forum this belongs in, so please move if wanted. I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts about improving left-right (interhemispheric) communication.

I believe this is an area I have had troubles with. Until recently, I found it hard to think visually, was very dreamy and abstracted sometimes, couldn't talk well, got very frustrated trying to follow an equation or argument. I've been seeing a body psychotherapist and a few sessions ago had an unusual breakthrough. After doing some work, I felt a strange left-right split in my body. I literally felt that I was in two separate halves (and still do a bit). for the next week or so I noticed some changes in perception: I started to 'see more clearly' see colours more vividly and be able to think in images and colours. I can also express myself verbally a bit better, and follow logical arguments better as well as being a bit more creative.

The guy told me that this type of work was 'repatterning' which on a google means forming new neuronal connections in the brain...if you release certain traumas or exercise the brain in a new way, the brain seeks more efficient pathways than the ones it was using before and you experience a change.

I want to keep improving in this way. The things I have found that help or claim to help so far to increase left right communication:
  • Throwing a ball from left to right hand (I've been learning to juggle)
  • Playing a drum
  • The 'gamut' sequence from EFT (A little sequence to wake up left and right brains)
  • Piracetam and -racetam drugs (I think this effect is claimed, not tried them)
  • Various commercial 'repatterning' systems like braingym or 'brain integration'

Any thoughts would be welcome

Default useful

Hi,

That topic is hard to classified.

Thanks for posting it!

I have the same problem as you, difficulties to communicate, lack of imagination, etc.

Maybe, I should try me too a body psychotherapist. What did you do during the sessions? How much does it cost by session? etc.

Body psychotherapist I never heard of it. Is it rare? Where can I find it in Canada?

Have a nice day or evening.

Hugo

this is what they taught me in psychology class...
I'd advise exercise, doing stuff that forces both halves of the brain to work simultaneously/together.
for instance, you can write a short novel. you have to use one half of the brain to keep it logical (for instance if it's a crime novel) and the other to keep it descriptive. or you could make your own comic book. that should combine two halves as well.

just do some research on what corresponds to which half of your brain and do an activity that combines segments from both halves.

Default I switched my mouse....

I was having pain in my right hand from clicking and so I switched the mouse to my left hand. My whole life has changed! Just kidding. I do think it was good for me though. It definitely made my left hand more coordinated. Did it do anything to my brain? I'll have to think on it.

Thanks Crystal Lilly, I'll have a think about that.

Hugo, the guy I saw wasn't any more expensive than any other kind of therapy - about £50 a session, but these things can vary. I tried another guy before this that was ineffectual and a bit of an arsehole, so you might need to shop around. A quick google shows plenty in Canada.

What do I do in sessions?
  • Allowing the body to 'complete' past traumas (also see the book "Waking the tiger"
  • Hands on therapy - he pushes on points in the body, or pushes against me to provoke a reaction
  • Experimentation with physical movement and sensation, which provokes 1
  • Some discussion of past and present problems - he can challenge views etc in the manner of a trained counsellor
