Tranglos software: KeyNote

^ Similar to action outline that Steve talks about. Can potentially have a big list of note files in tree format. I use this and I love it.

^ If you need a good web based calendar to schedule things, I recommend this as well.

Remember The Milk is a great free application for reminders and simple lists. You can add things to your lists through email too. It's pretty cool, you should check it out.

I also use Action Outline from Green Parrots Software (recommended by Steve). Not free but pretty cheap

ToDoList, despite its name, is a great application, not only for managing tasks, but also for outlining, notes, and storing small bits of information you need to remember. Its constantly evolving and free. Windows only.

Default Try tada lists

The guys at 37Signals have a decent web application that handled to-dos. The web app advantage is that your lists will be accessible from any computer. Of course the disadvantage is you'd have to trust them with your data.

To do list, simple, easy, fast, sharable: Ta-da List

I'm not in any way affiliated with 37Signals, but I do find their apps to be generally nifty.
