Hi, i went to pyschologist he medicated me antidepressant pills, he says it's cause i've been through a large period of constant stress (about 8 years), he wants me to do nothing but to sleep, eat and physical needs. He pretty much convinced me about his reasons to take pills, but i'm a little bit worried about it is a good decision. I have also heard taking pills makes you addict which i don't want to. What advices can you tell me about it? Also if anyone of you has taken pills, can you tell me how is it? |

Hi... Hey I understand your concerns... I'd like to share my thoughts! Firstly, I'm a psychologist and currently work with a lot of people suffering from depression and anxiety... and lots of other things as well. In Australia, psychologists are not allowed to give medication -- we are not doctors and only doctors can prescribe any medication. So that would be a doctor or a psychiatrist (who is firstly trained in medicine). I am anti drugs of any description... however! I do recognise the need for medication to be prescribed for some people. And if you have been experiencing prolonged stress over eight years I would suggest medication is wise. Take what has been prescribed for you... but also monitor how you are going with it. Sometimes the dosage needs to be changed, or the type of medication given to you may not suit you... it takes time and patience. But let your doctor know how you're going with it all The doctor who refers clients to me is very strong on "low dose" medication particularly antidepressants. In my experience, medication alone isn't the total answer. You would greatly benefit from finding a counsellor or therapist to help you work through the problems you have. I hope all goes well for you! I truly do. Warmly Jeanne |

Hi newuserint, It's hard to say what you need to take and what not, and this is mostly because we don't really know what you have gone through. What the doctor told you to take could be ok or not. I think you should also consult a psychologist that you know is good. Ask some people online and offline about one. I'm saying to go to one because the only one who can help you even better than your doctor is this person. By talking to him/her, the solution will easily rise up. It may turn out that you do not need to take all those pills. Who knows? You have to give it a try. After all, it's your life here and doctors do not always understand the psychical part of things. I hope this helps you. I embrace you, Razvan Dobre Last edited by Razvan; 09-10-2008 at 11:20 AM. |
