I would be interested to know where you learned to photo read and what memory techniques you are applying. Accelerated learning has always been of great interest to me. So much to learn, so little time ... Keep us updated on your progress - I would like to know how this goes. |

Most important thing in learning is INTEREST. If you are interested in the subject your concentration level is high and with high concentration grasping power increases dramatically and also reading speed.. curiosity is the key in my opinion. Last edited by shivraj; 09-10-2008 at 10:05 AM.

Feasibility study of this experiment: ANALYSIS: My strengths: 1) visualization techniques 2) visual, auditory learner 3) Good reading skills 4) Good concentration level 5) Good vision 6) Availability of all resources needed eg. books 7) Can manage time for reading My weakness / Constraints: 1) I have soft copies of some of these books and reading on the computer screen is frustrating sometimes 2) Need some trigger to remember 3) Sometimes semi sub conscious state is unable to get in to.. 4) Need some internal information management system to control flood of information. My current reading speed with optimal memory (more than 90% ) = 300 words per min. My photo reading speed = 900 words per min. with almost 70% retention. words on average book page = 30 lines * 20 words per line = 600 words (It depends upon kind of book) therefore, Time need to read one page = 40 seconds average pages of book = 300 therefore Total time to read one book = (300*40)/60 min. = 200 min. = 3.33 hrs ~ 3.50 hrs.. approximately Of course that's a MAXIMUM TIME needed.. Nobody is going to read every word on the page.. so time would be around 2 to 2.5 hrs All I need is to have that much time... And I think I can do it.. I have just a general idea how photoreading is supposed to work but is 900 wpm not a little slow for photoreading? It sounds more like speedreading to me. Or did you mix up the two terms on purpose? No offense - I am just curious because I am looking at a way to improve my reading speed as well and speedreading seems the way to go for me (not photoreading).

Photo reading and speed reading.. names are different but have same objective ... I got to go for final outcome... no matter what ways are .. whether it's photoreading or speed reading.. it's just small difference in techniques and use of subconscious mind involvement.. nothing much radically different.. | Countdown: 86 days ![]() Books read : (1) Mein Kampf: Adolf Hitler Pages:298 Time for reading: 2.15 Hrs (2) Man's Search for Meaning : Victor Frankl Pages:154 Time for first reading: 2 hrs Marked for deep study in the future. I read this book 4 times in last 2 days. This is a humble beginning of the challenge but worth starting with the book like 'Man's search for meaning'. I am deeply touched by this book. Above 2 books are of the authors one who was responsible for concentration camp and other who was in that camp for 3 years and lost his father, mother, brother and wife in "OVEN". I read the book from both point of view. I come to conclusion that wrong beliefs, attitude, action can create such a horror that nobody could ever imagined at the same time right attitude and faith can save the man even in the extreme torture and suffering. Author quoted that.. "He who has a why to live can bear with almost any how." In the concentration camp every circumstance conspires to make the prisoner lose his hold. All the familiar goals in life are snatched away. What alone remains is "the last of human freedoms"—the ability to "choose one's attitude in a given set of circumstances." Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms—to choose one's attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one's own way. |

| Countdown: Day 74. Book: The Alchemist Pages: 94 Time for reading: 1 hour Improvements: Mind Mapping Summary: 1) “The wise men understood that this natural world is only an image and a copy of paradise. The existence of this world is simply a guarantee that there exists a world that is perfect. God created the world so that, through its visible objects, men could understand his spiritual teachings and the marvels of his wisdom.” 2) It's the possibility of having a dream come true that makes life interesting. 3) Dreams are the language of God. 4) It's the simple things in life that are the most extraordinary; only wise men are able to understand them. 5) When someone sees the same people every day, they wind up becoming a part of that person's life. And then they want the person to change. If someone isn't what others want them to be, the others become angry. Everyone seems to have a clear idea of how other people should lead their lives, but none about his or her own. 6) World's greatest lie : that at a certain point in our lives, we lose control of what's happening to us, and our lives become controlled by fate. That's the world's greatest lie." 7) There is one great truth on this planet: whoever you are, or whatever it is that you do, when you really want something, it's because that desire originated in the soul of the universe. It's your mission on earth." 8) The Soul of the World is nourished by people's happiness. And also by unhappiness, envy, and jealousy. To realize one's destiny is a person's only real obligation. All things are one. "And, when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it." 9) People are capable, at any time in their lives, of doing what they dream of. 10) "People learn, early in their lives, what is their reason for being," said the old man, with a certain bitterness. "Maybe that's why they give up on it so early, too. But that's the way it is." 11) Everything in life has its price. This is what the Warriors of the Light try to teach. 12) When each day is the same as the next, it's because people fail to recognize the good things that happen in their lives every day that the sun rises. 13) The principle of favorability: When you play cards the first time, you are almost sure to win. Beginner's luck." "Why is that?" "Because there is a force that wants you to realize your destiny; it whets your appetite with a taste of success." 14) God has prepared a path for everyone to follow. You just have to read the omens that he left for you. 15) Don't forget that everything you deal with is only one thing and nothing else. And don't forget the language of omens. And, above all, don't forget to follow your destiny through to its conclusion. 16) 'The secret of happiness is to see all the marvels of the world, and never to forget the drops of oil on the spoon.' 17) We have to take advantage when luck is on our side, and do as much to help it as it's doing to help us. 18) You must always know what it is that you want. 19) Beauty is the great seducer of men. 20) Every blessing ignored becomes a curse. 21) Never stop dreaming. Follow the omens. 22) The language of enthusiasm, of things accomplished with love and purpose, and as part of a search for something believed in and desired. 23) There's no such thing as coincidence. The mysterious chain that links one thing to another, 24) The closer one gets to realizing his destiny, the more that destiny becomes his true reason for being. 25) People need not fear the unknown if they are capable of achieving what they need and want. We are afraid of losing what we have, whether it's our life or our possessions and property. But this fear evaporates when we understand that our life stories and the history of the world were written by the same hand. 26) When you want something with all your heart, that's when you are closest to the Soul of the World. It's always a positive force." this is not just a human gift, that everything on the face of the earth had a soul, whether mineral, vegetable, or animal—or even just a simple thought. 27) 'Eat when it's time to eat. And move along when it's time to move along.' 28) "Courage is the quality most essential to understanding the Language of the World." 29) "It's not what enters men's mouths that's evil," said the alchemist. "It's what comes out of their mouths that is." 30) Remember that wherever your heart is, there you will find your treasure. You've got to find the treasure, so that everything you have learned along the way can make sense. 31) You must understand that love never keeps a man from pursuing his destiny. 32) One is loved because one is loved. No reason is needed for loving. 33) " Don't think about what you've left behind " "Everything is written in the Soul of the World, and there it will stay forever." 34) "There is only one way to learn," the alchemist answered. "It's through action. "The wise men understood that this natural world is only an image and a copy of paradise. The existence of this world is simply a guarantee that there exists a world that is perfect. God created the world so that, through its visible objects, men could understand his spiritual teachings and the marvels of his wisdom. That's what I mean by action." 35) If you know your heart well, it will never be able to do that to you. Because you'll know its dreams and wishes, and will know how to deal with them. "You will never be able to escape from your heart. So it's better to listen to what it has to say. That way, you'll never have to fear an unanticipated blow." 36) His heart told him that it was happy. "Even though I complain sometimes," it said, "it's because I'm the heart of a person, and people's hearts are that way. People are afraid to pursue their most important dreams, because they feel that they don't deserve them, or that they'll be unable to achieve them. We, their hearts, become fearful just thinking of loved ones who go away forever, or of moments that could have been good but weren't, or of treasures that might have been found but were forever hidden in the sands. Because, when these things happen, we suffer terribly." 37) "Tell your heart that the fear of suffering is worse than the suffering itself. And that no heart has ever suffered when it goes in search of its dreams, because every second of the search is a second's encounter with God and with eternity." 38) Everyone on earth has a treasure that awaits him. 39) His heart said. "We, people's hearts, seldom say much about those treasures, because people no longer want to go in search of them. We speak of them only to children. Later, we simply let life proceed, in its own direction, toward its own fate. But, unfortunately, very few follow the path laid out for them—the path to their destinies, and to happiness. Most people see the world as a threatening place, and, because they do, the world turns out, indeed, to be a threatening place. "So, we, their hearts, speak more and more softly. We never stop speaking out, but we begin to hope that our words won't be heard: we don't want people to suffer because they don't follow their hearts." 40) Before a dream is realized, the Soul of the World tests everything that was learned along the way. It does this not because it is evil, but so that we can, in addition to realizing our dreams, master the lessons we've learned as we've moved toward that dream. That's the point at which most people give up. It's the point at which, as we say in the language of the desert, one 'dies of thirst just when the palm trees have appeared on the horizon.' "Every search begins with beginner's luck. And every search ends with the victor's being severely tested." 41) It said that the darkest hour of the night came just before the dawn. 42) "When you possess great treasures within you, and try to tell others of them, seldom are you believed." 43) Courage and enthusiasm.. Strongest qualities of all... 44) "Your eyes show the strength of your soul" 45) "You already know about alchemy. It is about penetrating to the Soul of the World, and discovering the treasure that has been reserved for you." 46) "Don't give in to your fears," said the alchemist, in a strangely gentle voice. "If you do, you won't be able to talk to your heart." "If a person is living out his destiny, he knows everything he needs to know. There is only one thing that makes a dream impossible to achieve: the fear of failure." 47) Usually the threat of death makes people a lot more aware of their lives. 48) The world is only the visible aspect of God. And that what alchemy does is to bring spiritual perfection into contact with the material plane." 49) "No matter what he does, every person on earth plays a central role in the history of the world. And normally he doesn't know it." 50) Life really is generous to those who pursue their destiny. |

Thanks for the updates shivraj. It's interesting and inspiring to follow your progress. Speaking of which, do you use special software to track your progress? It looks like the images you have been posting are generated by software designed for this kind of thing.

Ok, I would like to know where you are getting some of these books... Example: Sun Tzu? 28 pages? I can not find a single edition/translation that is under 100 pages. Example 2: Richest Man in Babylon at 16 pages? Ok, so the ancient flier for "Richest Man in Babylon" MIGHT come in at 16 pages, but I have yet to see any edition of the book under 100. Example 3: Iron will at 25 pages? Shortest I can find is 50. |

| First I go in to trance like state by 10 to 15 min. Meditation and while reading I create mental mind maps... It may slow me down a bit but it's useful for comprehension and memory. It's like watching the movie in the mind's eye.. SQ4R(survey, question, read, remember, review, reflect) technique is useful along with speedreading / photoreading.. Now one thing is clear to me that I can't read at the speed of 25000 WPM. May be that's my limitation or I didn't understand the technique or whole technique is wrong... It's interesting to read Nasa's research on photoreading : http://ntrs.nasa.gov/archive/nasa/ca...2000009345.pdf |

I have their DVD course. I have completed that and with the consideration of being non native English speaker, my reading speed have increased dramatically. Of course there are lots of many factors like your practice, learning habits, vision, concentration, quiet place etc.. to affect your results.
