Default I'm lucky today

My four year old son swallowed a quarter this afternoon. It lodged in his throat and he couldn't breathe.

Thank goodness I'm a volunteer firefighter and had the training necessary to save his life.

If any of you have some spare time and haven't taken a CPR course, perhaps you should. I never thought I'd have to use my training at home.

How scary. I'm glad he is okay. I've never taken one .. Now I feel the need to go double check my house for things my daughter might swallow.

How did you do it? Heimlich or forceps? I heard about a man who gave himself a tracheotomy when something was stuck in his own throat and I have wondered what I could do that if needed. Tell us what happened if you will.

Heimlich. It took three tries. He recovered seconds later and was off to his next adventure. I was still shaken hours later.

Chopsaw, I am so glad that you were able to act, and thus help your son.

That isn't just luck. That's being prepared. I second your vote on CPR training.

It is great that you were there. Now that it is over you know that not only you gave him life, but also you saved his life. So whatever sacrifice or bad moment you ever had as firefighter will be worthy. Even if I think it is scary I am glad about such news, for it is good news in a way.

I did a cpr training (in my country it is obligatory) but so far I never used it. It's always good to know how to safe people.

That would be really bizarre. I wouldn't know what to do with the money afterward.

Really love that quote....that a keeper! So happy for you and your son. I have a four year old son too and I wouldn't be shocked if he did the same thing. Thanks for sharing your story
