My four year old son swallowed a quarter this afternoon. It lodged in his throat and he couldn't breathe. Thank goodness I'm a volunteer firefighter and had the training necessary to save his life. If any of you have some spare time and haven't taken a CPR course, perhaps you should. I never thought I'd have to use my training at home. |

How did you do it? Heimlich or forceps? I heard about a man who gave himself a tracheotomy when something was stuck in his own throat and I have wondered what I could do that if needed. Tell us what happened if you will.

It is great that you were there. Now that it is over you know that not only you gave him life, but also you saved his life. So whatever sacrifice or bad moment you ever had as firefighter will be worthy. Even if I think it is scary I am glad about such news, for it is good news in a way.
