Hi there! I'm about to finish my studies as a lab rat which I was kind of forced in by my parents. I love to know all the things I've learned, but I'm actually an artist. Since forever I've been drawing, acting, writing etc. Now I get the chance to do what I really want and... I don't know what that is. If I had all the money I need I'd try to do those things: - learn how to play the guitar - learn how to bellydance better and open a gothic bellydance school with a friend - get into an arts programm and develope my skills with professionals - act on stage or be part of a movie - travel to many countries and write a book about it - learn new languages Even if I had money, I wouldn't be able to decide what to do. all I know is that I am an artist at heart and that I want to experience and learn lots and lots of new exciting skills. Right now I'm just clueless and this mustn't end like this: Me working in a lab for the rest of my life just to support myself financially and doing nothing artistic at all. |

I relate to you because I have a degree in a science major, but I am a writer by passion. Even though I have a *rather boring* day job, I still believe that it is there to finance my writing ambitions. It's tough doing the two, I'd rather spend 100% of my time, writing, but until I get some recognition, I can't throw away my well-paying day job for mere fantasies, especially that I am still too young to know what I really want from my life. So you can use your degree to finance your hobbies, and establish yourself before you're ready to stand on your feet. well, nobody has the right to decide your life. Since you are interested in artistic works, then you can use your working in the job as your source of income initally and show your artistic talents to the society. If you are popular after that, then you can go as a full time artist.

You could also start looking for jobs around your interests. Retail at a music store, a dance studio, art supply store or studio, theater or if your in S. Calif a movie studio, become a travel consultant, etc.. That way you'd be able to get your foot in the door of something your interested in.. even if it is at the ground floor, it's a start and probably much more interesting than being a lab rat. |
