Self esteem is self respect it is confidence with the ability to judge right and wrong because you can see yourself in others. Self confidence does come with self esteem. However self confidence is often misguided and too close to the realm of arrogance if used the wrong way. In my opinion self esteem wins and the world is a better place for it. Later, |

| Kate, with experience it is easy to tell the difference between self-confidence and arrogance. A self-confident person is like a beacon you get good energy from a self-confident person, you can tell from what they say and how they carry themselves, but arrogance and conceit you can simply tell in your gut, you don't want to be around those people regardless of what they have accomplished.

I've never come across a really credible definition of either term, the way I interpret self confidence versus self esteem - and the way I've treated them in my course - is that self confidence is the outward projection of confidence while self esteem is required to ensure your confidence is in line with your inner beliefs, instincts, and inner voice. It's typical that both would go together, however there is always the possibility that you can project a false sense of self confidence where your self esteem is taking a big hit - this is especially common in certain phases of addiction where the addict puts his or her entire being into convincing those around them they are alright inside by projecting confidence - but they are really dying inside of low self esteem.
