im guessing we all face blocks at some point or another something like writer's block...but in different aspects.. like achieving goals, learning new things, accepting different things and i guess my question to everyone is how do you break into that block and get over it! i'll answer first ... I usually get creatively spent, and cant think of new ideas for art projects... whenever i get into a creative block... i start doing simple activities like listening to music, seeing inspiring films, making paper airplanes, dancing...and suddenly the ideas start flowing again... |

While this article focusses on writers block I think it has some good tips for general creativity: Connect with Your Creative Writer | ThinkSimpleNow.com Personally my blocks are most often fear based, so I work on dispelling my fearful thoughts and emotions through detachment.

My opinion. I am not fundamentally my emotions and thoughts. They come and go but I am something more permanent. They contain knowledge about me (or contain a part of me if you like) which can be extracted. By understanding the emotion or thought. As long as I remember the separation then I remain detached from them, I understand them by paying attention with my awareness. This method works wonderfully for me but it is very hard. It requires constant effort and attention because some fears are so deeply rooted or hidden away that we don't see them. And then we need to the courage to fully explore them. Easier methods are to find some motivational or inspirational sources and use these to overpower fear. But I believe my method is better in the long run because it works directly on fear.

I wrote a blog post about this last week, called 5 Common Barriers to Personal Growth. I guess you could apply them to a host of other things too. |
