Question Ron White's memory system

Hello,

Wondering if anyone has used any of the Ron White products.

I'm a bit confused at the moment.

He says to make 'files' so you can store information in them. E.g. 20 files from around your house such as a sofa as number 1 file.

So say if I wanted to memorise a page of text-surely I have to do more than to remember it along with 'sofa' as the number 1 file?

He says to remember something it should contain a location, a code and an action.

Sorry if this isn't too clear.

This technique is known as the Journey method, or "Method of Loci". There is record of it being taught as long ago as Roman times.

Method of loci - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

There is PLENTY of free literature on how to learn/use the technique. Don't pay for some kind of teaching aid for this.

Thank you Doku.

The CD I 'learnt' this from was part of a package of Leadership CDs, so it was cheap for me to become aware of it.

The reason why I asked if anyone had used his products was because I wasn't sure it was so well-spread and therefore would probably only know it through Ron White.

Thanks also for the link-do you use this system yourself?

I haven't heard of Ron White before, unless you're talking about the Blue Collar Comedy Tour comedian of the same name, whom I've always wondered how he remembered his shtick while swilling bourbon onstage.

Anyway, I first learned the method from a Tony Robbins course. Every room in my house became a "file" to put something in and it works particularly well when you have to remember a list of stuff. You go from room to room in a set order and retrieve each item you left there.

It takes some practice, but you can learn to do the same thing with a page of info. Just break the info down to essential phrases and then the phrases into essential keywords, store em in your "rooms" and retrieve at will. This worked like a charm for speeches and exams in college!

Best of luck!

I use the "Roman Room" system for many things, along with Harry Lorayne's system for remembering people's names. I attribute a lot of my success in business to those two things.

I will go into a business meeting with anywhere from 5 to 25 other people. We'll go around the table with introductions of who you are and what company you represent... then get into whatever discussion the meeting is about. There are generally 50-75% of the group that all work with each other all the time, but the remaining 25-50%, this may be the first time that they have met. The other newbies will either simply not speak up because they are embarrassed that they can not remember the people's names, or they do the "hey you!" bit that annoys everyone. I address everyone by name every time... and they recognize that and appreciate it, and therefore remember me. When the time comes to award the work, I have often gotten the work on that aspect alone (and have been told as much).
