I'm always looking for ways to brainwash or condition my thinking and behaviors. Does anyone know of any tools you can buy (or get for free) that work, aside from cd's, subliminals, and hypnosis? I found this thing that flashes positive affirmations on my computer screen while I'm at work which is pretty cool. It's called mindzoom. Here's the link. People make fun of me a little at work, but they really think it's cool that I'm always working to improve myself. |

| There are always things we want to improve on. I didn't have a particular thing in mind. What I'm looking for is things that help me condition myself. Interactive software and such. I'm just looking for tools.

First thing: Don't view it as "tricking yourself." That will incur resistance from your mind. Instead, think of this as "lining up all the cards in your favor." You are using different methods to line up all the parts of your being in the direction of your choosing. Now, isn't that far more empowering than "tricking" yourself? This is extremely important. ------------- Visualize for 20 minutes everyday exactly what you want. I like Paul McKenna's positivity system - I do it everyday and it works really well. Sit in presence for 20 minutes. I recommend listening to Eckhart Tolle audiobooks. Relentlessly if this is important to you. You might want to try Paul Scheele's Clear Mind, Bright Future if you want interactive purpose finding and goal setting. It works pretty good, especially if you want clarity over the direction of your life. Hope this helps you! |

Hey, I like the topic. It's always beneficial to find new tools for improvement. I really like Fullcrum's post about being present for 20 minutes. I especially love Eckhart Tolle's teaching. It is so simple and so incredible. I just loved his webclass on Oprah.com. Did anyone else see that? I believe it's still available for free on Oprah.com if you wanted to check it out. It's simply amazing. As for tools for improvement, I just recently read John Assaraf's new book called 'The Answer'. It has a great process called Neural Reconditioning Process I think. It basically teaches you why you always come back to a similar place in their life and how you can change that. It talks about the RAS (Reticular Activating System), which is basically the bouncer of your brain. It decides which information will come in and which won't. Your subconscious mind interprets 400,000,000 bits of info every second and only 2,000 bits gets into your conscious awareness. That's a lot of stuff that isn't getting in. This is what your RAS does. It decides what gets in and what doesn't. Our subconscious mind is the decider of what we focus on. If we aren't conscious about improving, we won't see things that will help us improve. If we feel cheated, we will filter our many good things and find a way to see something that shows we have or are being cheated. The way to work around this is to reprogram what your RAS focuses on. This is done through meditation or presence practice, visualization, affirmations, and like you have mentioned Subliminals, Hypnosis, etc. But John Assaraf's book The Answer is a great resource for learning about this. There's also this subliminal DVD that I saw on Joe Vitale's website. I haven't watched it, but the idea sounds incredible. I had a similar idea a while back, but wasn't at the level to develop it. I'm glad he did. You can read about it here Subliminal Manifestation.com | Fear-Less: Transcend and Break Through Fear Hope this has helped. Jared James |

- The first step is memorization. - The second step is anchoring them to a highly charged positive emotional state. - The last step is reciting them regularly enough that they reach your subconscious. A computer tool cannot help you with any of these 3 steps. And the fact that people make fun of you at work, only makes it even more ineffective. | |

The Silva method is great. Generally, any kind of hypnosis if the key I think. It is 'brainwashing' in a sense, but we are constantly brainwashing ourselves with negativity, so we should replace this with a positive version. The subconscious is the key to everything. I also like the subliminal messages. You can buy a thing to make CDs containing your own subliminal messages. Send me a mail and I'll send you the link. hkalchemy at hotmail. Best wishes to you. |

First, I think self-improvement is very important and just the very act of trying is in itself a big improvement. Of course, always being on the lookout for good ideas is important. One never knows when the next good idea is going to come along. I am beginning to think that keeping track of time too closely can hinder ones attempt to make better use ones time. A clock chops up our time into pieces. We see the little pieces of it slipping thru our fingers and we start to focus on that instead of what we want to accomplish. I am beginning to think that watching the clock in an effort to better focus our attention is counter productive. We live in an age regulated by the clock. What have we lost in so doing? Does anyone think that people who lived in an age when clocks were uncommon didn't get anything done until clocks became commonplace? Good luck to everyone who is seriously working on self-improvement. |

| One reason someone may need to trick themselves is, some people have issues with executive dysfunction. This is a real neurological issue and commonly is part of ADD/ADHD, depression, and other conditions. When you have executive dysfunction, you can have a thing that you want to do - and think about it all day - and just not even get up to do it. Even if you have something written on a list that you NEED to do, if you have ED it is ten times harder to get up and do it. You can't motivate yourself even for things you really, really want to do.
