Hi, this is my first blog. Here’s a little bit about my self. I’m very happy at the moment I have a beautiful girl friend, Bryony means the world to me. I'm totally in love with her! I also work part time for my family business, which has been going for over 10 years now. We have two successful shops that sell beads and accessories and we have just opened up our online shop, which I love working for. In the mean time i'm at uni in my final year, unfortunately I have lost interest in the course and I cant wait for it to end. I'm not really putting that much energy into it, i'm just trying to get an average grade. Now the question i'm asking you (the reader) is do you think I should carry on with what i'm doing, which is not really putting any real energy into my course and enjoying everything else? Or Do you think that my course is one of life challenges and I need to face it, because this is a perfect opportunity to develop as a person, because later in life I might find my self in the same situation and this time I will know how to handle it? Now, that last bit sounds the obvious one but my argument is that I feel I am developing my relationship with bryony, which to me is the most important thing. I'm also helping to improving the website which I love doing, and earn some cash! All this is developing me as a person, and I’m enjoying doing it. What do you think? |

Personally I would continue with the degree. Not sure what your academic year is but it must be 6 months at most if it is your final year? I know you don't need your degree to be with your girlfriend or run your business, but I think the self esteem that you get from finishing will be with you for a long time. You don't know what situations might come up in the future where having that piece of paper might come in vital. I think it is normal to want to give up just before the final hurdle. It's been a long time, and the end is a little way away and is some effort. I think it would be a waste of the time you have already spent to drop out now. If it was your first term, I might give different advice, but as it is nearly over, I say just hang in there and get really disciplined about using your time well. (i.e dedicate enough time for study, and use it wisely). It will be over sooner than you think! ps congrates on having a functioning business up and running already! |

If I understand the question "Now the question i'm asking you (the reader) is do you think I should carry on with what i'm doing, which is not really putting any real energy into my course and enjoying everything else?" you are not contemplating dropping out, just staying on cruise control. Depending how much time and energy you have, I can understand not wanting to devote alot of extra time to "do well" (i.e. get good grades.) What is your objective? To get good grades or to graduate? It sounds like you won't be needing to impress anyone with a GPA any time soon. You need to determine how much time you want to spend studying, then whatever time that is, make it quality study time.
