I've been interested in learning the peg system of memory improvement but I'm running into a bit of resistance. I've seen two different methods of using a phonetic alphabet: one involving rhyming and one involving specific sounds for letters i.e. 0 = z,s 1=t,d etc. The second issue is that I'm trying to find a good method for memorizing the first 100 pegs. Is it best to memorize through a link or is it just something you need to brute force until you can recall a specific peg for each number? I understand that any given word can only be decomposed into a single number but I'm having difficulty trying to remember a single specific noun for each number. For example, under the phonetic alphabet tie, die, hat, cat, etc would all be valid pegs for 1 so I'm having difficulty sticking with a single one so that I can create a mental association with a number and that word.

I think you should link them together and then do bruteforce memorisation till you can find the right one in time. You can also always navigate a bit through the phonetic alphabet in the beginning (use pegs that follow the phonetic alphabet). |
