Default What do you look for in Personal Development or Self Improvement Materials

Hello Everyone;

With all of the personal development books, courses and tools out there today, what do you look for when it comes to deciding what you want. What do you need to see, hear, or feel to make you say.... This is different! This will help me and I need this now!

If one of your answers is to get a personal recommendation from a friend, what is it that your friend has told you that convinced you to take action and get it for yourself? I am asking because I have recommended some really great stuff to some of my friends before (they were open to it - I didn't come from out of the blue) and they never follow through with getting it.

If it was something you ran across on your own, what was it that got you to get it and start using it instead of leaving it on your shelf?

Thanks!

-B.

People had been recommending The Power of Now to me for years before I got around to reading it. Ask and It is Given, a gift from a friend, sat on my shelf for over a year before I looked past the religious-looking cover. A couple of weeks ago I had a major shift in perspective regarding Way Beyond 100% Responsibility and the next day my boyfriend handed me a copy of Breaking Loose from the Money Game, which articulated this shift in an amazingly clear way.

So my answer to you is: When you're ready, you're ready.

i just look around on amazon usually the links or listmania thing , but dont try too many, like the one book a week thing is alright, but if its a really good book than you should spend more time getting the most out of it.

It doesn't really matter if it's a friend or an unknown person. The one important thing is if you perceive that person as someone who knows what he's talking about, if he's very successful or it's very rich.

I look for material that analysis the sucessful mind. Which ideas, attitudes and traits do succesful people have?

I would also like to read stories on what individuals actually have done to make their dreams real. In that way I can put my own efforts in perspective, and I have learned that we are capable of much more than we commonly think possible.

What I "look for" is a feeling inside me. That feeling is often subtle, although sometimes it's a resounding "yes!"

I'm not always looking for something "different." Often it's comforting to read something well-written that covers ideas I already know and have embodied. If I feel a resonance with an author, then it is like joining my space with that person's space. A new kindred Spirit.

While I'm quite adept at finding the gems within a package, I am particularly interested in the authenticity of the whole package, especially if I'm considering recommending it to others.

Good Question,
Jeanie Marshall
