| The man who overcomes ‘the greatest of all fear’ has the ticket to success and happiness One recent research on what is the greatest fear in the human race, it beats my imagination to read; “The fear of public speaking is a fear greater than death itself” It is common to all human. Fear is like a seed everyone is born with. Sometimes I wonder to myself, “Can they be a cure for this deadly virus?” No! I’m sorry, there is no cure. Just as it’s natural for a man to die, so also it’s for a man to fear. This is why we are humans. Even if there is no cure, there must be something we can do to control it, so that instead of being slave to fear, we become a master of our fear. Like I said before, I can’t give you the causes of the ‘The fear of public speaking’ because it’s natural to fear for we are humans. The only people who have no fear are those in the cemetery (dead people). What I want to offer you is how to overcome the fear of ‘The greatest of all fear’ public speaking. Even if you can’t kill it, you can control its power to favor yourself. That is the secret. Public speaking is one of the best developments and growth training you can get in the human race. Sometimes it’s even greater than education. Poor speeches and presentation can affect anyone’s dream of achieving a major height/level in life. Here are 11 hard-to-find rules to help you overcome the fear of public speaking in few minutes. Know what you want to say in advance Look your listeners in the eyes Take your time. Talk clearly. Use an outline instead of memorizing a speech Be constructive or rather creative Apply stories and gestures to catch their attention Go beyond self- interest Be yourself. Don’t imitate Be specific Use a positive approach Stop at the right time You can download a free report ‘Seven habits of a confident public speaker’ by Graham Jones, a public speaking coach, at Fear of public speaking eliminated - Stop Public Speaking Fear Good luck as you make your speech and presentation with confident. Enjoy success Rufus Yamoah |

| Good suggestions, thanks. I think the cause has to do with people's focus on achieving a result instead of focusing on the process. The result can be various things: need to impress, need for approval, need to look smart, etc. It's hard to fulfill those needs because they are dependent upon other people, not you. So then you feel the negative emotion of fear. You eliminate these needs by focusing on the process. Prepare well, know your subject matter, etc (rufus10 has some really good suggestions) and forget about the outcome of the speech. A good friend told me that this is what he does. He sometimes gives speeches and he often tells himself this: "I have prepared very well so whatever happens, I can handle the consequences of this."

| The first time I ever went to a Toastmasters meeting I was scared to even step in the door. In fact, I almost turned around while heading up the stairs, wanting to rush to my car and go back home! But I'm glad I stayed, because by speech #10 (I got my CTM within 6 weeks of joining), I was dying to get up to speak more - in fact, I joined a second club so I could get more speaking time in. The key is to find a way to enjoy it - and that means trying different approaches and topics that are interesting to you (I even did a speech on what I considered the different types of flatulence). If you enjoy yourself, the audience does too, naturally.

| These are some good suggestions. I especially agree about practice - you will not overcome your fear of speaking by reading books or watching speeches. You need to get up there and do it. I teach a seminar on Overcoming Your Fear of Public Speaking and although the techniques to become a better speaker help, there's no substitution for getting up their and stretching your comfort zone. |
