| I hesitated on asking for help on this issue. But recently something has been driving me crazy. I've been writing down my goals and plans, and now I'm in a rut. I think I've over planned it and now am totally confused. See it like this way, an over bureaucratic government with a confused President. One my goals in life is to be simplistic as possible, so I am trying to fix this. How can I get rid of this obsessive compulsive trait? because I can't work like this. I can't get things done!!! |

| I had the same problem. It was associated more with the hopelessness attributed with not having enough time. You add not having enough time to the need to have every single aspect and situation planned out and you find yourself in a stagnant state paralyzed on what to do next. Let go... Things do not have to be planned out to perfection. In order to let go take a close look at how you view time. You have to change your relative state of time. Remember there is more than enough time to take care of what ever it is you need to take care of on your list. To change this relationship with time, you need to live in the moment. Every single second of every day is your opportunity to define who you are. In your comments you had things you were saying about yourself that seem to focus a lot on the preparation for the job as if it is something you will do in the future. Live in the now. If you need a list, jot down one thing then complete it and cross it off your list. The jot down the next thing and complete it and cross it off. Complete something then write it down and cross it off. Soon you will find that you do not need a list at all. You will also find that living in the moment will help you finish those things a lot faster. I would suggest watching closely at how you talk about yourself externally or internally, do not tell yourself you cannot do it, just do it. Also do not stress out when things do not get done. You have a fresh slate every day to define yourself. Become the person you want to be right now, and do not stress over the lists... List do not accomplish things, intent and action does. Have fun with it.

| The secret is to do it all the time. A task at a time. Not leaving your notebooks scattered on the desk after working is a basic example. Once the desk is clean, and the clothes are scattered around it, you will notice that something's wrong... This is the way it worked for me. I'm so happy that people have similar goals as mine. |

| Thank you for posting this thread. This is a very common problem, and seems to slip into other areas of life. Live happy.

| Hi ProjectX, It sounds like you're actually doing a pretty good job. You've identified your goals and you've worked out a plan, that's a good start. Why do you feel you are over-organised? Is it: 1. Because you know what you need to do but find you're spending too much time thinking about it and not enough time doing it? Then you simply need some momentum. Remember that lots of little steps can produce big results. Do something every day, no matter how small, that will contribute towards achieving your goal. At the end of each day ask yourself the question, "What have I done today to get me closer to my goal?". If you can answer with anything other than "nothing" then recognise that you do indeed have some momentum and use it to spur you on. 2. Because you have an inappropriate definition of "over-organised"? What has to happen for you to feel that you are doing things in a simple, straight-forward way? Is it that you have to get it right first time, every time? Is it you must not waste a single minute of the day on something other than what you intended? Doesn't that sound unreasonable. Allow yourself to feel less "over-organised" by defining your rule for feeling this way to something more achievable and that is entirely within your control. Don't rely on other people or circumstances which you can never control to define whether or not you feel over-organised. I hope this helps in some way. |
