Default Three strange habits you wouldn't give up

Brushing my teeth with Dr Bronner's soap instead of toothpaste.

Buying all organic groceries.

Watching sitcoms from the nineties. (Roseanne and News Radio are a couple favorites.)

I have Dr.Bronners soap... maybe I'll give it a try

I buy organic too, why is that weird?

And I don't watch tv, maybe that's a weird habit since my whole my family is seemingly mesmerized by it.

But I'm not really sure of my weird habits... I'm pretty weird to most people though.

Ha ha, Martin, that's funny. I don't watch TV either and the family I came from are TV junkies as well! It's on 24 hours practically.

Not sure if my habits are strange, but I can tell you, I get some strange looks! LOL!

1) Hang all of my laundry to dry, by choice. We don't own a dryer.

2)Walk 2.5 miles to and from work everyday, by choice. Yes, we have a car.(...and I love my ipod!)

3) If my husband and I have to make any major decisions we need to take a walk together to talk it out. It seems to be the best way and it's always worked.

Rinsing off the cap of the tube of toothpaste.

Saying goodbye to my cats as I leave for work.

Peeling the skin off of orange segments.

Only 3?! I'm so weird I can't live with just 3 strange habits :P

1) Walking around with the umbrella on my shoulder as if it was a rifle.

2) "Playing the piano" with my fingers without any real piano, and sometimes even dancing, in public.

3) Giving "Hi 5" when greeting people, even to old ladies

I use a tea strainer even with a tea bag.

I can't help tweaking computers, even though I know disabling that last service won't make any difference.

I always need to have the toilet paper over the roll and I need to turn the roll around if it's under.

Constantly making funny faces.

Wearing the same or similar outfits for long periods of time. (People now call me Doug from that Nickelodeon show.)

Sitting cross-legged in chairs that aren't really meant for it

When eating aboard my sailboat, I always throw one piece of food overboard saying "One for the gods", even though I'm not religious.

I like to have my computer screen rotated 90 degrees (tall screen, instead of wide screen), as it makes it easier to work with long text documents, and my keyboard physically split in two (google Freestyle Ergonomic keyboard). People tend to look at my desk at work and shake their head.

Can't think of anything else, but there is probably lots.

Hmm...

Talking to my cat as if she could actually answer me...I actually do ask her questions.

I re-watch the Matrix trilogy every few months because i think its like a crash course in Philosophy.

I only read story books that have proper philosophical value to me, otherwise It doesn't matter how good the story. won't read it.

Off the top of my head:

Enjoying the scent of books/newspaper etc so much that I spend almost the same amount of time smelling them rather than reading them (if the scent is good)

Smiling at everyone who pass by me, including those that don't smile back

Talking to myself, my pets, even my soft toys

And there could be more

  1. Reading a romance novel every few months, even though they are predictable and badly written
  2. Watching movies I've already seen dozens of times because they make me feel good
  3. Doing double-takes whenever I see a guy with dreadlocks to see if he's cute

Haha, interesting...

1. Only using two colours of pegs, and only one colour on each line, alternately - it just looks nicer.
2. Rinsing my toothbrush before and after I put toothpaste on it to brush my teeth.
3. Checking that I have my phone, wallet, lipgloss and keys about 4 times before I leave the house. (I've done this for about 5 years, and my partner now says the mantra for me *L*)

1) My morning greeting ritual with the cats. When I come out of my bedroom, they're usually waiting for me on the landing. Before I even go into the bathroom I stop to say good morning to each one in turn, and pet all of them. They're always purring and happy to see me, and it's a nice way to start the day.

Once that's done I can use the bathroom in peace, and as I head downstairs the cats proceed ahead of me in an orderly fashion (instead of getting underfoot and begging for attention, which is not a good thing when I'm trying to negotiate stairs first thing in the morning--especially as there are six of them).

2) When I load silverware in the dishwasher, I'm a bit obsessive about putting salad forks in one slot, soup spoons in another, knives in another, etc. If I have a houseguest who puts them in the wrong slot, I'll rearrange them before running the dishwasher. It sounds crazy-compulsive, but in fact it makes unloading the dishwasher easier; I just grab one handful of silverware from each basket and put it straight away--I don't have to spend any time sorting it.

3) I hang all of my clothes up to dry, even though I have a dryer. Energy savings is only part of it; dryers are brutally hard on clothing, and by hanging my clothes to dry they last a lot longer. I can also put shirts directly on hangers, and once they're dry I can put them straight into my closet. Some of them might need a touch-up with an iron, but they don't end up nearly so wrinkled as they do in the dryer.

In the winter, I can hang a few items in the little boiler closet in the basement, and everything else fits on a rack I made that goes in front of the open boiler closet door--it's nice to put the otherwise wasted excess heat from the boiler to good use.

I still use the dryer for towels (because I don't like scratchy air-dryed ones), and sometimes sheets (if I don't have enough space to hang them). But that's maybe one dryer load a month in summer, two in winter.
