Default Laziness and Procastination

Hello... This is my first post.

I got a problem with completing the goals I set for myself. I'm too lazy and I ALWAYS say I'll just do it tomorrow, when in fact I never end up doing it.

I can't stick to my goals, and starting a new habit is REALLY hard.

How can I get RID OFF this laziness and whatever else is holding me back from success?

Any advice anyone would be appreciated

Two thoughts:

1 - Either you get up and take action now (Just do it!),

or

2 - Re-examine your goals.

If your goals don't motivate you, you may not feel inspired to work toward them. If you chose them because they kinda seemed like a good idea, they worked for someone else, you think you should do them, or whatnot, they may not work for you. There are all kinds of things I could or should do to improve myself or the world around me, but I seem to only have the motivation to work on goals that inspire me. For me, inspiring goals come naturally, almost as if they choose me, rather than me choosing them. The goals I try to force on myself rarely work for long.

It's also possible that you've chosen the right goals for the right reasons, but you have habits that get in your way. If that's the case, choose to take action now. Commit to doing a certain amount every day, even if it's small. Make it part of your daily routine. For instance, my husband practices piano after dinner, going directly from the table to the piano. I write in the morning shortly after waking up. One of my students practices her horn as part of getting ready for school in the morning. Also, I can get started on almost any task if I commit to just 5 minutes. Although I do occasionally quit after 5-10 minutes, 90% of the time, I continue until it's complete, or for on-going projects, I continue until I've spent 1-3 hours at it.

That is the root of your problem, you have to find what is holding you back from your success. What are you afraid of? You have to know the reason why you are procrastinating and then work on that before you can successfully change a habit. I can tell you that if you answer this question first, you will not be asking the question you posted tonight in 6 weeks, 6 months or 6 years.

If I can say one thing, is to nip it in the bud.

cheers

Default sometimes i cant just do it

what if my goals are long term? how do i get over the frustration and stress that accompanies not being able to simply act?
example: i want to go back to school, its 3am, i cant do much about my goal right now but i still feel frustrated that i'm not moving towards it.

am i nuts?

In this case you are going to have to start by doing one thing a day, just one thing, focus on parts of the plan and it will not seem so impossible. Do you have a plan? do you know exactly what you want to do? everything in life takes some kind of effort, lazy or not you still have to do something.

Maybe the first thing you need to do is to stop refering to yourself as Lazy. Second is to know that worrying is the most useless and harmful of preventable actions, it will get you nowhere.

Figure out what you want and promise yourself to do one thing a day.

You are not alone it happens to everyone you just have to snap out of it, this is a forum is a great place to get help but you have to act.

I am not plugging anything here but I wrote a blog about procrastination that might help you:

How to Overcome Procrastination

Good luck,

Newbie here..

I read an article on the site re 'overwhelming force'..... and that was enough to get me happenin today on something I had been postponing with regularity.

I spent yesterday thinking on all of the things I could do to ensure I would achieve my goal with certainty.... sure enough this morning I started into one task I had carefully avoided for a long time.

Well done Blaiserboy on taking that first- but very important- first step.

Now you know that you have the power to take action, even though you doubted you could do it, the next goal will be that little bit easier to achieve.

If you can do one thing that you've put off, let the momentum grow.

However, don't look at the BIG picture or you might be overwhelmed... just aim for the next goal. In time, you'll knock them down like dominoes.

I think you are quite right about the big picture.... I have to work on the little steps..... the big picture has been a bit intimidating...

The great benefit of not doing what needed to be done has been to see the Steve Pavlina website which offers so much...

All things in good time..!

thanks
