Default How to Develop the Action Habit

I've recently been doing a lot of thinking on the habit of taking action. It is truly that, a habit. We all know that without action, there will be no results.

So how exactly do we create the habit of taking action?

I've wrote an article about how to develop this habit. I'd love to hear your thoughts. =)

great men speak with their actions, while the petty man speaks with his mouth. This also goes for talking to yourself

That's a great quote Tom. And especially relevant in terms of how you deal with yourself. Thanks for sharing.

Hey man, great article!

I agree with a lot of what you said in it, especially number 5, practice makes the master, and number 6, Dont think, What do I have? Think, What do I want?

I also have been doing a lot of thinking about the habit of taking action.

A while ago I was trying to learn good posture. I learned what proper posture looked liked and started practicing. It took a long time to make it second nature, but it happened. That's what I'm hoping will happen with this Taking Action habit.

One thing that truly helped was reading Steve's article titled Do It Now. I've got post its now saying DO IT NOW and that's also the greeting on my cell phone.

Another help was reading Tony Robbins' Notes From a Friend. In it he talks about having a plan and taking MASSIVE, CONSISTENT ACTION.

Now anytime something pops up that I have to do or should do, and I feel like putting it off, the booming voice of Zeus growls in my head "DO IT NOW!!"

Cool blog man. Cheers.

Thanks guys, I think taking consistent action is one of the biggest keys to success. As long as we make sure we're taking action for the important.

I'm not sure about #3... my experience with this is that the path and the goal are as related as the stimulus and response... focusing on one to the exclusion of the other can lead to actions that counteract or neutralize each other...

...of course, I could be wrong.

I think it's important to try to develop outer resources, like money, friends, etc. But many people feel paralyzed and procrastinate because they're putting their action somewhere in the future all the time.

They think.. when this happens, I'll do this. Or if I had this, I might do this. That's why I think it's important to focus on what you can do and worry about what you need as you go along.

I haven't read the article, what do I do know is:
You don't develop a action mindset from thinking about it.
You don't develop a action mindset from reading about it.
You don't develop a action mindset from writing about it.
You develop a action mindset from taking action.

Purposeful action breeds purposeful action.

Freelancer, that is very good advice. We won't develop a habit by thinking about it, reading about it, or anything other than doing it.

However, I think it helps if we can uncover some of the blocks that are keeping us from taking action and take action to correct them. =)

Just read the article, its coming from the same place as I am. Well done, I enjoyed it.
You pretty much had a action step next to every key, excellent.

Your blog is for the brainy guys, my post is for the quick simple down and dirty lets go type of people. And both are just a kick in the butt for both.
