Default college advice

(story)
well i do 4 subjects and i can ace the other 3 but the other one i just plain suck at it, The subject is 5 weeks hard stuff than 5 weeks easy, but the thing is i have to pass the 5 week hard stuff - mid-semester. Well thats in 2 weeks time and i dont think i can pass.

(question)
1. I wanna if anyone here that has failed a subject and they had to do again ??
2. If there is a right-brain person who is good at maths here ???

thankyou

Yes, I have (and it was a Math class, to be exact).

Failing one course isn't the end of the world, or your college career, especially if you do much better when you re-take it.

But try to avoid failing the course in the first place--even if that means you still have to re-take it.

Check to see what your university's drop/withdrawal policies are. The college I went to allowed students to drop courses within a certain period of time; if you dropped by the deadline the course didn't appear on your permanent record. But they also allowed a limited number of withdrawal privileges--I think it was one per academic year--in which you could withdraw from a course, for any reason, at a much later date. Withdrawing showed up as a 'W' on your transcript, but it didn't affect your GPA like a D or F grade would.

I had horrible difficulty with Math when I returned to college in my 30s. I eventually got through it and finished the required courses, but I got a D in the first one and had to repeat it, and withdrew from the second one and had to repeat it as well. I ended up getting Bs in both courses the the second time around because I already knew which areas were hardest for me to grasp, so I was able to get tutoring and other help lined up ahead of time. I also hunted for other math books that might help explain things better.

Hi Supertom,

to your first question (yes!)
I failed First year programming (14%) and then retook the course and got 70%.

What I learned? That I'm not a very good programmer, not interested in programming and that it's not one of my strengths - so I don't do it. I avoid it altogether.

to your second question(yes!)
I'm a mechanical engineer but I use both brains (although I'll admit that I didn't in the past -- mostly left-brain).

In the past 18 months I've started creative writing, drawing, singing and playing guitar hero - totally right brain stuff..... love both brains!

When I had trouble with Differential Equations, I used a book called Schaum's Outlines that really helped me. Sometimes it's good to get things from a different perspective. A worthwhile investment.
