Default People who have obstacles they don't even know about.

I have a question. I just found out I haven't been getting good sleep due to a deviated septum and I'm going to get a sleep study to see if I have apnea. We all need good sleep. If we don't get it, we are forgetful, scattered, tired, disorganized, grouchy, etc... I've talked to people who've gotten help for this and they say it's changed their lives. They are happier, more organized, clear headed... My question is - how can you use any self help stuff if you have a condition that makes it impossible for you to even think straight? Obviously, I'm going to be able to rectify my problem, but what about people who have problems that can't be rectified so easily? What about people who can't even get organized enough to find out about their "condition" (whatever it may be) let alone, get help for it? And what if they can't get help? What if there's no real cure or coping mechanism? How do these people improve their lives if they can't even get it together enough to create new habits?

Maybe those people are waiting for you to form an sleep apnea awareness group!

How are you going to fix yours -- with surgery? It would be nice if we had a good medical system to help people with problems like this. And I imagine yoga breathing techniques would help people in general. I think you're right that there are a lot of people who don't even know they have sleep apnea.

I have a rather serious sleeping disorder myself (not sleep apnea though). Yes it's hard to improve yourself when you're "in the fog" half of the time. However, I'm completely convinced that everyone can benefit from personal development, no matter what hand they've been dealt in life. You can start new habits even in your most sleep deprived state. The only thing is, you don't really enjoy it in the way you would otherwise.

Default Well, for the deviated septum...

I'll need to get the simple surgery to open up the nasal passage. I'm doing the sleep study on Wednesday to see if I have apnea.

This is one of those things that can only be answered by "Life isn't fair." Sorry kiddo.

No, it just isn't fair. Some people have terrible health problems from birth, others are healthy. That sound fair?

Default Well, I do have apnea.

I stopped breathing 22 times in 6 hours. I'm going to start wearing a mask on Sunday. The good news is they say the mask works and people who've used it, it's changed their lives. It's like they're totally different people. Maybe now, I can get my s*** together.
