The first podcast of the first book in the Amnar series is due to launch on Saturday, and it's turning into an incredible learning experience. It's not just about how we deal with each other, but it's helping me learn how to deal with being in charge, the boss, the organiser, and how to allow other people to do their side of the work without my fussing over them all the time. One thing I've realised is that I have a choice in how I respond to these situations. We've got a lot to do in a very short space of time, and at first I turned into a Monstrous B*tch about it because it looked like we might run very close to the deadline indeed. I've been juggling phone calls between agent and producer, both of whom appear to be on some form of very noisy transport so all our conversations involve a great deal of yelling. In the middle of this, I could clearly see I had a choice in how I managed this situation. 1. The melodramatic artistic nutcase approach: "Nobody ever lives up to their word! Why is it I'm the only one who can do anything around here? What's wrong with people?!" 2. The hugely excited artistic nutcase approach: "How can we get this done? This is so exciting, when can we meet? What's the best way to get this out so people have a podcast on time, have a website to look at and enjoy what they're going to be hearing?" I picked option 2, and suddenly the situation goes from stressful, agonising end-of-the-world nightmare into a creative adventure. Yes, I'm intensely scared. I have to let my baby out into the world at last, and we don't have the resources to produce the most beautiful podcast ever imagined, nor do we have the facilities to create the most gorgeous orgasm of a website ever to grace the internet. But we are all working very hard, and it's attitude that makes the difference. There is a little blog-post about shifting perspective and how we deal with difficult situations here: It’s Going To Be A Close-Run Thing « In These Heels?
