Default Are entrepreneur attributes universal or do they vary between cultures.

Hi everyone,

This is the question I hope to answer in my Advanced Topics in Cross Cultural Tourism class.

My original idea for the paper was to discuss the different concepts of time; one, that time is linear, with a beginning and an end; and two, the idea that time is cycliaul and repeating, or a wheel of time. Focusing on how these two concepts relate to productivity in different cultures and specifically tourism.

Time in North American culture is thought of as something that we never have enough of, constantly looking to prioritize and manage. Much of this site, specifically this forum, is spent on discussing how to be more effective and use your time better.

Do these same discussions and time management techniques exist across the world?

Is the American entrepreneurial attitude spreading to cultures across the globe, and does this have an affect economically and culturally?

Are these changes for the better or are we all over worked and lacking fulfillment?

I am hoping for some insight to these questions and suggestions for readings.

Long time reader, 2nd time poster.

Cheers,

Ander

Besides time being linear/cyclical, you could also explore subjective/objective.

Another idea is how countries' histories influence their culture's thinking. For example, when I think "old" in the US, I think 1800s. It was not until I visited Europe that I realized that Europe has a much greater sense of time. Some things there date back several centuries. I am not sure how this affects everyday life.

Good luck with your paper!
