Default How to learn?

Ok I would like as much help as I could with this. I would like to know suggestions for websites and books that can help me to understand how to learn effectively. I would really love (and prefer) first hand experiences with books or audio-courses.

Here's a couple of good articles I found on how to learn more quickly and efficiently:

How to Learn More and Study Less | Zen Habits
Hacking Knowledge: 77 Ways to Learn Faster, Deeper, and Better | OEDb

I would also add, that you should keep in mind the difference between learning necessary and unnecessary information. Sometimes the best way to learn can be to restrict your input so that you are able to remember the important things. Also, simply because you started a book, or an article, doesn't mean you have to finish it if you're not finding any real value. I think we often get into the habit of trying to finish something just so we don't feel guilty.

I would suggest learning how to remember as the most effective tool to learn.

Something by Dominic O'Brien.

Hi Akashic_Librarian,

Diana Beaver has a great book, NLP for Lazy Learning - how to learn faster and more effectively.

I highly recommend it. It has some great NLP exercises that are easy to do as long as you're willing to experiment with yourself.

Are we talking retaining information, such as studying, or aquiring a new skill, such as learning how to make a website or cook a meal?

If it's retaining information...I had a note taking technique that served me well...what I would do was have a notebook and read the text book of whatever subject. Any word I didn't "own" (as in use it myself and know exactly what it meant in all contexts) I would write it down. After I had about 10 of these words I would write the definition of these words. For me just writing it down helped me retain it.

As far as learning a skill...I would just do it. The best way to learn how to be a computer tech is to break your computer. Heh.
