Default Toastmasters International

Hey,

I'm currently think of join Toastmaster International. I've been reading a lot on their website and other reviews / stories. And of-course Steve has been enthusiastic about it. On top of all that, I'd like to hear some more personal experiences people here have had .

Cheers!

I love it! Helped a lot in overcoming shyness in speaking publicly.

I am also a Toasmaster and think it is one of the best investments in Personal Development there is, not just because of effects, but price-wise as well.

Excellent! Remember, with everything, you get out what you put in.

Thanks for the support in the GTD thread, I am glad I have been able to shed some light on it or even give new insights.

Went to a meeting two weeks ago. They had a evaluation and best international contest if I remember correctly. Tomorrow I go again and see what a "normal" evening looks like ^^.

Yeah it's contest season. Our club had its contests last week and the week before as well.

My brother joined the group and starting winning awards right away. He became a CTM in less than 1 year. Then he stopped attending because he no longer wanted to write speeches that followed specific guidelines. He wanted to talk about what he wanted to talk about in the way he wanted to. I guess he wanted less structure in his speaking.

He has since gone on to secure other speaking engagements at colleges and was given the role of presenting training sessions at work. The person who was supposed to present the meetings at his job was dry and lifeless. She asked him to do it because she knew he was a member of the group. He received a standing ovation and received a monetary reward for the speaking aside from his regular pay. He was even asked to travel to other locations and present to the employees there.

In one of my all time classic PD books by Frank Bettger, he also encourages you to join a public speaking club.

However he warns you to only join one where you can be guaranteed to speak at every meeting.

Is this possible?

Is there a list of locations for Toastmasters? I'm in South East Asia and would like to look into it.

Just go to Toastmasters International - Home and click on "Find a club" and enter in your details. It will show you the closest clubs to you.

Yes, I want to apply too!
How does it work?
You join a little group, then you speak in front of bigger and bigger audiences?
You are helped with advice and tools?
I would be very interested to have in idea of the idead of the process, before applying.

This is impressive, a great success-story. It looks like your brother found his 'voice'.
