I am looking for someone that I can meet with in-person maybe once a week or once every other week to be a counselor and coach. Specifically, I am wondering if there are people who have the training to be a combination psychologist/life coach/career counselor all in one. I have struggled with clinical depression and been on medication and seen several different psychologists over the years. I have also done a couple of different career tests from different sources and had the results interpreted by people trained to interpret them. I have done a good deal of reading self help books, articles, etc. ranging from cognative behavior therapy techniques to career guidance. I don't think just reading will help me anymore and I don't want someone who only deals with depression issues or only deals with career issues. I need a person who can guide me step by step in both areas and keep me motivated and moving forward. I'm too stuck and un-objective about myself to do it by myself. I need someone telling me what specific actions/tasks I need to do each week to get from here to there. I think more specifically I need someone to really help me understand where my talents and true passions are, how to stop giving up on myself before I even begin and take action even if I'm not sure I can do it. And figure out why I won't let myself be happy or feel capable/deserving of having what I want - whatever that really is. Its hard to really completely describe what I need but I'm hoping you all have ideas about what kind of person I'm looking for. If it helps I live in Orlando, Florida. Thanks for all of your help! |

Not sure if I can help without knowing a little more info but I am in Orlando. Check out my site and if you want a consult give me a call. Even if we don't work together I may be able to point you in the right direction. Cheers Tim |

It sounds like you could use a good life coach. Amongst my circle of friends, I am the one that everyone comes to for lifelong advice. I've done some life coaching with a local therapist in Minneapolis (it's preferred that I don't say who he is), and have had some great results. Unfortunately, they stopped the program, or I'd still be doing it today. Unfortunately, I'm a couple thousand miles away, but some emailing, or a couple phone calls a week can make all the difference. That's all the more I see from a lot of my friends. Send me a PM if you want to line up a phone call or email. And of course, just about any of life's little get you downs can be resolved right here in the forums, with so many insightful viewpoints, it's a resource that can't be ignored. Best of Luck, ~BraveBlueMice. |
