| I was watching 'The Fellowship of the Ring' (Part 1 of the LOTR) tonight with my kids on DVD and I was struck by a line Gandalf came out with.... ""All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."" I dont know about you, but this had one of those profound moments with me, as I contenplated in a few seconds, my family, my life, my existence. I immediately wanted to rediouble my efforts in everything that is important to me, and to throw off the shackles and baggage that I carry around with me. All of this within about 3 seconds!!!!!!

| There are quite a few great quotes in those movies. That one is one of the best.

| I hadn't thought anything of that line while I was watching the movie, but now that you point it out, I can see it as a line of significance. For me it means that you shouldn't waste your time doing what you don't want to do. |

| I actually added the 'Gandalf' quote to my list of great quotations..........It was a bit weird naming Gandalf the Grey as the source, but hey For the record, not many get onto my list but here they are.....in no particular order Peter Singer If we have learned anything from the liberation movements, we should have learned how difficult it is to be aware of the ways in which we discriminate until they are forcefully pointed out to us. A liberation movement demands an expansion of our moral horizons, so that practices that were previously regarded as natural and inevitable are now seen as intolerable. Mahatma Ghandi The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated. Arthur Schopenhauer The assumption that animals are without rights and the illusion that our treatment of them has no moral significance is a positively outrageous examples of Western crudity and barbarity. Universal compassion is the only guarantee of morality. Jeremy Bentham The question is not, can they reason? nor, can they talk? but can they suffer? Ayn Rand Wealth is the product of man's ability to think. Anon. If you want to feel rich, just count the things you have that money can't buy. George Bernard Shaw Lack of money is the root of all evil. Albert Einstein If you want to know the future, look at the past. Gandalf "All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us." Jim Rohn The difference between rich people and poor people is that poor people spend money and then save what's left; rich people save their money and spend what's left. Albert Einstein Compound interest is the eighth wonder of the world Mahatma Ghandi You must be the change you want to see in the world Victor Hugo The soul does not give up to despair until it has exhausted all illusions Benjamin Frankiln Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise

| Some of my favourite quotes of all time come from movie characters. I've even had some people collect quotes from my characters as inspirational, which is a bit weird at times.

| Don't forget the great Albus Dumbledore: "To the well-organized mind, death is but the next great adventure." "It is our choices...that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities." "Humans have a knack for choosing precisely the things that are worst for them." "It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live." "Youth cannot know how age thinks and feels. But old men are guilty if they forget what it was to be young..." "You fail to recognize that it matters not what someone is born, but what they grow to be." "It is important to fight, and fight again, and keep fighting, for only then can evil be kept at bay, though never quite eradicated." _________________________________ Jennifer |
