Naturally no body gets forced to do it by the manual.
It depends also a bit on the club. In some clubs the evualator concentrates primarly on the objective that the manual defines and in some clubs the feedback is more on the overall performance.
Talking to your evaluator and telling him in advance that you didn't try to build your speech on a specific purpose and that you want more general feedback on your delivery might be a good idea.

In the future I would recommand you to read the manual before writing a speech. By focusing on a specific aspects of your speech you can better improve as a speaker.
I'll just talk to my evaluator before hand, tell him/her what happened (flash of inspiration, didn't follow manual) and ask him to pay specific attention to tonality/voice and body language which are my biggest problems.

In the future I'll be building a speech up from the manual.

In our time we are constantly bombarded with advertising.
It's designed to unconsciously take away our responsibility of choosing how we spend our money.
Ah I like that sentence much better thanks. I'll probably still use 'in this time and age' simply because I like saying it (sounds good me thinks) and I'll be double using it in the speech (two sentences in a row) adding strength to the point.

The Netherlands has Dutch Speaking clubs and English Speaking clubs coexisting peacefully. Personally this English club is the shortest traveling distance (still 4 hours travel time for 1 meeting) for me and I enjoy speaking in English (don't get that chance often) and want to get better at English pronunciation as well.

I don't know about Germany, haven't looked into that.

4 hours? Wow, that's dedication! You're right to spend time on here working on your speech to get the most out of your time in Toastmasters!

haha Thanks. In about 6 months I'll be moving towards the city where the meetings are being held at the moment saving me a ton of time, really looking forward to that.

I leave 16:45 and get the last train back returning 00:45 the next day haha. I've got a OV (student stuff in Dutchland) allowing me to travel for free during the week, the meeting is on Friday so it doesn't cost me that much, which makes all the difference.

I'm really not that bothered with the trip, I bring my Ipod, listen to some Eckhart Tolle, catch up on school reading or bring a book along the way and perhaps practice the speech some more (when needed). Really its my 'study' time. Gotta love trains.
