Default Morning Habits

Hi all,

We all know about the importance of good habits, but are developing good habits for our morning routine perhaps the most important of all?

It seems to me that if we start the morning off well, it really lays the foundation for being happy, healthy, and productive throughout the rest of the day.

I have written an article related to this topic called 10 Morning Habits to Build Your Day Upon.

I would love to hear your thoughts about the article, and in particular what morning habits you have. Does my list cover them, or do you have some other great habit that we should all know about?

Peter

My morning habits consist of getting out the door and into work.
I recall that the first hour of every day is like the anchor for the day and can set the direction for the rest of the day.
I'm curious how all this morning habit affair translates over to people who follow a bi-phasic sleeping pattern.

GREAT article...dead on!

As for me....mine are only a slight variation of what was written in the article. (Tangent...Did you write that? Would you consider being a guest writer on my website and posting it there??)

But I use different vernacular because I'm "religious". I get up early...not as early as STEVE... But 6ish. Pray, read scripture and other religious material. Then move into personal development reading (10-15 min). Write in my journal to bring everything I want to change, do or be into the conscious part of my mind. It's one of the best things you can do to clarify your emotions and goals (journaling). Drink a protein shake or fresh juice. Work out (in nature if possible) while listening to my recorded LifeVision. (my 35 minute recording on my ipod that defines my perfect life with all the emotion, action plan, when, by-when and motives!)

I get accused of having a perfect life way too often. But I attribute it to following a routine such as you've suggested. Message me if you want to get that article on my business blog.

Excellent article. Great to see your links to meditation sites and acknowledgment of that. Liked the grooming comments.

Great article! I loved it!

Hmm, all of my life I have been an early riser, it is just the way it is done down here. From Elementary to Middle-High I woke up at 6. From High-School to now (I am on the fourth semester of my career) I wake up at 5, and if I need a bit more time, at 4:30.

But even if I wake early I do everything in slow motion, lol, and I don't do much other than the usual hygene rituals (not including shower, because I take a lot of time to shower), dress up (I severly need to better this department), and breakfast. Not to mention that the latest I have to get out of my house is 6:30, because I enter classes at 7.

I don't feel tired in the mornings, but for some reason, no matter how much time I have, I always manage to leave the house at 6:30. Do you have any suggestion as how to do things faster in order to get the best out of my already ingrained early-rising habits?

Nice article.

The only point I disagree with is #10. I agree that spending time to groom yourself and look great for the day is important, but I don't think it has anything to do with how others perceive you.

I find when I've recently had a hair cut, I wear nice clothes and I take care of myself, I simply feel better throughout the day. I feel good about myself, I am more confident and I am a better and more honest communicator. Again, I think this is about the self, and not about others.

Thoughts?

Great Article! I love the name of your website, "pick the brain". Very clever. Your article is so true. My day entails jumping out of bed, eating a quick breakfast, swigging some coffee, dressing and grooming quicky and running out the door. This sets the tone for my entire day, because my life is one big rush. I'm working on paying attention to the details that can make a big difference in my life.

It may be shallow, but first impressions are lasting impressions. Looking good, not only makes me feel good for myself, but I feel better when I know I am perceived positively by my peers. On the periphery of importance, looking good also may encourage others to do likewise.
