Default Just quit my job sounds simple

It is no secret, I work at a toxic and corrupt work enviroment. I am stressed and very tired of my job. So the obvious answer just quit my job. Sounds fair but call me a chicken but there are matters for me to consider. My wife only works 5 hrs a week. We have a 1yr girl. Most important my wife has an exsiting condition that requires 800$ meds a month. With my job benefits we only pay 50$ a month. The least of the problems is my job pay the best in the field I am in. And I really don't know where I would start looking for a job nothing appeals we in the job search in the paper. I try my best to keep my job out of my home time by keeping active and working out alot. I am currently looking to see if there is any free or discounted health insurance for my family. If my wife can get a better job I am considering working part time to keep my benefits and not have to spend so much time at my job. As much as I am complaining I am really just sharing my problem and seeing if anyone might have any ideas or has been in or is in the same boat I am in.

Thanks for your time

Definitely get in touch with the ADA.

There's no shame in researching all avenues. Your wife may be eligible for state assistance. Develop a gameplan.

Starbucks has excellent health benefits for all employees if she'd consider something like that.

If you need any help regarding the disability thing, I shall do my best to help.

I'm sorry that you're in that situation EnduranceNinja.

Would Cobra extend your insurance if you quit?

What exactly is making your job stressful?

Are you taking on too much work? Are you being yelled at? I get the feeling from your post that you are overworked. This is the status quo these days. But not knowing exactly what's troubling you makes it difficult to answer.

If it's simply you are doing too much. There are many ways to cut back on how much you are doing. You might have to disappoint a few people. You might have to "get in trouble" because you're tapering off how much you commit to when you're at work. I'm not saying you can fix that work environment, but what you might be able to do is make it somewhat tolerable while you seek another job.

Nobody deserves to be stomped upon or the victim of corruption at work. It is interesting that you mention corruption. That is a serious claim. Perhaps if they start screaming at you for tapering back on the amount you commit to, whistleblowing is a near near future...?

I think you hold a lot more cards than you probably realize because you're too close right now. You're smack dab in the middle of a bad work environment. However there are rules and there are laws in place to protect and help employees.

I don't want to online bash co-workers but I have had many times had higher management go around the rules for me and not in a good way. My fellow co-workers said I should of reported this one action to home office but I felt it would only result in a slap on the hand and some of management hating me more. And it is the department I work for not the whole job. My co-workers are even stressed. One worker never says anything nice or positive. I try to ignor this person but it gets me. I tried to move to a different department but was denied and without getting into detail that was one of the rules they went around to prevent my moving departments. I know this is only my side of the story and I am not they only victim. I know this has been happening to a few other co-workers. I am trying for now to hope my wife gets a good job and then cut to part time. This will give me more time to work on my dreams and goals.

Have you tried to minimize your spending so you can save as much as possible to hold you over if you feel the overwhelming need to quit as soon as possible?

Dan: From the paperwork I've received, Cobra is hugely expensive.

First, realize that you can (without a doubt) quit your current job and find a career you are passionate about. This may not happen overnight, but in order to get those creative juices flowing you've got to choose to believe it's possible.

Second, you've got to figure how you can best use your skill set and passions in a career. You mentioned the newspaper, which is really the last place you should look for your dream career (because it's the last place an employer goes to post a job). Pick up a copy of Dan Miller's book or course, 48 Days to the Work You Love
Once you've got a better career in mind, the book will tell you how to go to companies you'd like to work for and directly ask for the position you want (whether it's in the paper or not).

Finally, get together with your wife and develop a game plan. Someone else mentioned making a plan and that's exactly what you guys need. If you both agree that you need a new career it just becomes a matter of looking for opportunities to make that happen.

Believe you can, figure out your ideal career, develop a plan, and make it happen!

Best of luck,

Kevin

What is the health problem that requires $800 in meds. Those drug compaines are making a lot of money off of you. Kevin Trudeau says that all meds are bad for health and shorten your life. Make sure to keep all your receipts. Then if she dies and there is a class action suit against a drug like Vioxx, you will never have to work again. Vioxx killed thousands of people and it was taken to kill pain but not to kill pain permanently.

Great advice.

I too think you can find something more suitable, but it just takes time and belief.
