Default biofeedback brain wave training

Is anyone else familiar with this? I just discovered it,basically they monitor your brain waves and put you into the alpha state and basically train you to learn how to put yourself into the alpha state, therefore improving your life in every way. This training costs $15,000! But apparently it works miracles...changes your personality, helps you resolve all your conflicts, anger, sadness, everything, all gone, leaving only pure joy and happiness. I really want to do this but dont have the money. Maybe someone knows of some cheaper versions of this? So far i havent found anything like it.

Alpha brainwave?
I thought meditation practices do the same.

I don't think you can really change your personality, perhaps its changing the way you think? or emotional control?

Anyhow, I have been practicing this Silva Ultra Mind and American Monk
meditation for a few months, it does make me feel different, for the starting few weeks
more joyous, relax, forgiving and think less negative about others

I don't know if i got used to it and don't realize the changes or what.

And this meditation training is free,
You can get 9 free lessons from Silva
And a few lessons from AmericanMonk , Burt Goldman

There's no point in spending that much, unless you just want to. I got a little handheld biofeedback machine for $15 about 10 years ago, from Radio Shack and it still works great!

I use it to get into those really deep states of meditation. I'm always amazed at how simply scratching an itch or something, can bring you out of it a little bit, and it'll take 5-10 minutes again to get back to that really deep state.

The hardware that you need to monitor brain waves at home is around 1.000$ (or cheaper if you build your own, which a friend of me is doing at the moment).
In general I also has to be said that there are no miracle solutions.

In general meditation (which you can support with brainwave entertainement) has a similar effect of bringing you into an alpha state (meditition has also other additional effects and is more than just "going into alpha").

Regular meditation DOES do this but supposedly this training does in one week what would normally take an experienced Zen monk 20 years to attain. And also, when you are meditating on your own,you have no idea if its really working or not since there is no feedback.
And about the personality changing thing...what you do is find all the things in your past that you were angry about, all the people who hurt you, etc. and when you are in the alpha state you go through a forgiveness excersise of the training which then "heals" you and you can achieve joy. The book i'm reading (The Art of Smart Thinking by James Hardt,Ph.D.) says that this training has turned jobless criminals and pschizophrenic drug addicts into loving, healthy happy people. Not that I am either of those or even close LOL but,i think almost everyone has issues from their past that have affected thier personalities and their lives that they dont even know about.

I thought by your post you had discovered Jim Hardt's Biocybernaut training. I too have read his book, and have had email correspondence with him. He's a very knowledgeable guy, with a great sense of humor too!

The art of smart thinking was a great book, if a little bit of an advertisement for the Biocybernaut process. I did a little bit more digging, and found that there are cheaper alternatives that begin at "deeper levels" than the Alpla One training.

I began my training at the theta level, and never looked back (someplace else, for far less than $15 000)

I would suggest a more useful book (and process) by Anna Wise, entitled The High Performance Mind (which you can find on Amazon).

I'm now in the process of getting my own neuro-feedback equipment, as the theta training was incredible.

All the best.

I don't think they even make that model anymore, lol.
Like I said, it's about 10 years old.

I just checked eBay, and they have 4-5 models for around $20, and then it looks like they have a few more with extra features for around $100.

I don't see why you'd spend $15,000 unless maybe you're a professional using it in your practice, where it would eventually pay for itself. Just my 2¢ worth.

An EEG.

There are also other cheaper biofeedback systems that don't concentrate on the brain but on other biological features. The 15$ handheld thing that SuperManny talked about is probably something in that region which measures the electric conductivity of your skin.
There are also people who experiment with devices that measure blood pressure or body themperatur.

Really cool would be an fMRI that measures blood flow in the brain but those things cost more than 100.000$ so it's out of question to buy one for your home.

Always remember that it isn't the goal of the excercise to have your brain waves look a certain way. That a byproduct of meditation and not the main feature of meditation.

Well apparently this $15,000 program is also a mix of therapy too, there are trained professionals there monitoring everything and helping you work through stuff, and then there is a type of group therapy every day after everyone's session. Its more like a retreat with therapists and equipment you cant have access to yourself.

check this out:

Pendant EEG - Wireless, 2 Channel Personal EEG - Inexpensive EEG, Neurofeedback

It's a very small EEG.

I'd recommend doing some neuro-feedback sessions with a pro first, learn all you can, then continue at home.

No, till now the word consciousness didn't appear in this thread.
In general talking about consciousness is very philosophical where your thread is about solving practical problems using a specific method.
