You are right, usually the students with the highest GPAs are the ones who quality for a scholarship. That leaves a lot of students unable to obtain a scholarship. Most students do not quality for a full scholarship, therefore have to pay for college themselves. Wouldn't it be better for those scholarships to go to people who needed a college education for their career, rather than to people who really don't need a degree, but go to college because they are expected to?

To be honest, I don't care if my doctor got Cs and Ds in History and English, as long as he/she did well in the classes related to their career. I also don't mind if a doctor did poorly in classes pertaining to a different field of medicine than the one in which they are working. It may just mean that they were never interested in that subject. I do, however, agree that it is generally more likely for students with good grades in high school to do well in Medical School. That, however, is why there is an application process for Medical School, with strict requirements.

Primarily because of the time involved. Why would I want to waste my time taking classes just to earn a piece of paper? I value experience over a diploma, and would prefer to spend 4 years getting on the job experience instead of 4 years taking classes. When I need to learn something new for my career I use a combination of books/online resources and hands on learning. I see no reason to spend 4 years learning something I can learn on my own in less time, for much less money.

What a post!!!! I sooo agree with you. Why would people spend their time and money so uselessly? I know why. Society pressure. Common beliefs. Wrong beliefs.

I always see the same thing in the lives of people who graduate. They find (or not find at all) some useless job and spend their time being unhappy and complaining. Basically, you told the whole story in your post.

not really, ^^ some people are just tardy so they make up all the excuses not to face reality. but that's one's own choice. if you plan not to go to school or go to school it's all up to you. all i know is that society needs universities and college. after all this isn't about a single person but the whole society.

I wouldn't say they are useless, although I think the OP may feel that they are. I believe that colleges and universities provide a value to society, by teaching those students who need it. The problem is that people seem to think that college is a requirement to succeed, and that simply is not true.
