Question I have a PROJECT....open for suggestions...

Greetings!

I've been posting on other boards, mostly. Thought I'd ask for some suggestions here.

I've got a straightforward project (or series of projects) to do: The re-organization of my own financial management process. This could be any paperwork type project, the content and details don't matter too much, I think. The main thing is getting this off the ground, working on it daily or regularly until it's done.

There are several subsections (taxes (I'm self employed), re-tuning my automatic bill paying system to a different credit card system because of more flying miles, planning out the upcoming year's and later financials, re-tuning other aspects of automatic and periodic bill paying etcetera etcetera)

What I'm asking is this: what have you all found to be a good strategy for turning piles of papers into a job well done? I'm real familiar with the ABC concept Steve has described, I do time logs, one would think I'm really pretty good at most of this stuff.................yet this pile is sitting here and I have not done it yet.............not even really started except to make sure stuff that needs to be done NOW is done at the time.........

Any ideas welcome, and hopefully this might be a discussion helpful to all!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Ati

Have you tried Simpleology? Simpleology: The Simple Science of Getting What You Want(BTW: I'm not affiliated with Simpleology, I just love it.) I've been using it for about a month and it has done wonders for my effectiveness and ability to accomplish more in less time. It's a free course that you do in a fifteen minute block every morning, it prepares you mentally and emotionally to GET IT DONE! Although if you are needing something to implement right away, you might look elsewhere first, it takes about 15 days before you get to the real practical part, but my opinion is that the wait is worthwhile.

Hi Ati,

Wondering if you know why you don't want to do this project?

I have a project like the one you're talking about...been putting it off for a long time. If I think about it, there area valid reasons for not doing it. I don't know how...I find it tedious and boring...and it's just really no fun. Plus, the only motivation for doing it is to stop the guilt...which apparently seems manageable right now

When I get tired of the chronic energy drain of that guilt... I'm going to clear my desk, spread it all out...and do it in time block. Fifteen minutes of focus, ten minutes of playing around...until I get it done. Then I'm going to reward myself somehow...a new warm scarf or something.

Maybe for me it's just more about caring enough for myself to get it done now, rather than allow myself to chronically feel bad about it.

dang...guess I know what I'm doing this weekend. Hey! maybe that's what we need here...a commitment page. To help us be accountable to ourselves.

Good luck,
Pam

I know personally any time I don't want to balance the accounts it's usually because I'm afraid to find out how close to zero they are!

Nice thoughts, hope you got it done!

I like the block time idea.

Procrastination is probably a great reason for the resistance we sometimes feel keeping from just getting something done already....maybe a habit develops if you start the procrastination.

I like your idea of a commitment thread!

all best,

JDI

JUST DO IT
Dont talk about it, dont post about it, just go, sit down, complete the project
If it takes longer than an hour, have a break 5mins, then go straight back repeat until complete
When you start JDIing things just get done lots faster

Let us know how it goes

It's true that works once a person gets to the mark. I did today!

Thanks for the push
