Lately I've been a bit frustrated. I'm an aspiring screenwriter and I've spent the last 2 years attempting to write a script. I've got the story completely planned out, I have the entire thing outlined, I know how the entire thing goes, I've read all the screenwriting books, taken college courses, I know story structure inside and out, heck I can't even watch movies the same without deconstructing them storywise and analyzing them. But for some reason whenever I sit down to write my script.... I can't do it. I feel the story inside of me, aching to get out. I've written the first 15 pages of the script, over and over again, but I can't get past that point. I don't know what it is, but it's frustrating, because I know I have alot of potential and it's busting at the seams to get out of me. I write the first 15 pages, stop, and can't write any more even though I know where it goes after that. I decide to re-write the first 15 pages in hopes that more will come but it never does. I get really nervous and frantic lately when I sit down to write and I can't even write a single thing! I get so stressed out but I'm honestly not sitting there thinking like "oh this is going to suck, blah blah blah, i can't write" no! I'm usually pretty excited when I go to begin writing because it's usually after I run the story through my head and i get pumped. But i sit down and just can't do it. I have some kind of block or something that I'm not realizing that is stopping me. How do I get past this? It's really straining me! I already have another script ready to write (although same thing happens when i try to write that one). I just this entire story out of me and written and finished. There's no way it should've taken me 2 years to finish this!

| Pity you just missed NaNoWriMo. No, don't wait until the next one to get started. I don't know what your block is, and it sounds like maybe you don't either. I'm guessing that you have implementation anxiety, but maybe not. Either way, my suggestion is to sit down for X minutes a day and write. It really doesn't matter if, while you're writing, you think "this is absolute rubbish!". It really doesn't matter if it doesn't quite make sense. That's great! Once you have something written down, you can push the words around until you're happy with them. Absolute rubbish is a thousand-fold more useful than a blank page. Write page #16. Then page #17. Once you've got all the pages down, then go back and edit. You'll probably have to change whole chunks but that's fine. For now, you're just providing the raw written material needed for that process.

This article details my practical method for dealing with writing. I hope that it proves valuable to you Guaranteed: An End to Writer\\\'s Block

I was going to mention the NanoWriMo method as *Keith* did. The act of simply writing the entire script through without editing until the end allows you to get all your thoughts out and on paper. After this is done you can take steps to revise and reorganize your thoughts if needed. I would recommend taking Steve's 30 day trial test theory and spend the first 30 days of 2008 writing. Write each day no matter what. Write in a program that tallies word count such as Microsoft Word to keep you motivated. As you see how far you've come the motivation only pushes you further. Good luck! Tanya

I addressed motivation on my last blog WifeisBoss.com . Sometimes the excitement may not carry over when completing tasks. That doesn't mean they aren't worthy, sometimes you just need a new approach so get out of the old routine. I'm new here, hope I'm able to refer to my blog
