Default 2008 What are your goals?

New Year is coming upon us and I am sure we all want to continue the good work we have done this year. I am inviting people to share their goals for 2008.

I'll start first -

1. To attract financial abundance through creating multiple streams of income. Basically I want to be financially free, meaning that I personally am attracting enough income to give up work, move out of home and concentrate on doing the things I love.

2. To enter into a deeply fullfilling and meaningful relationship with a wonderful stunning girl - I think I may have found her but only time will tell.

3. To contribute more to society and other people.

There you go. I am absolutely determined to achieve these goals, nothing is going to stop me and with the support of the people on this site I know that they can be achieved.

To 'get' or 'grok' the hedgehog concept and truly apply it to my business.

That's all.

It's fun and assuring to have more than 1 challenging goal when it comes to new year's resolutions, but personal experience has taught me that it's good to focus only on 1 big picture goal and relentlessly pursue it until satisfaction.

I have 3 major life areas that need work, so I'm going to continue working on those in 2008. They are:

Money: I started 2007 with an unexpected chunk of money and it has lasted me through the year, and just now I am finally starting to earn money by doing what I love for the first time in my life. My challenge for 2008 is to keep earning, and my goal is to be able to afford a house (by qualifying for a mortgage) before the year is out.

Food: I started 2007 as a semi-raw vegetarian, but while I was adjusting to my new home, new relationship and new country I fell off track and gained weight. My challenge for 2008 is to go back to semi-raw and try veganism, and my goal is to fit back into my jeans.

Family: I started 2007 alone with my children in a new country and with all the stress of moving half way around the world, somehow everything got in a muddle and we're finding it difficult to get along. I seem to spend all my time shouting at them and they don't listen to a word I say. My challenge for 2008 is to rebuild my relationship with them and my goal is to take it one day at a time and get through each day without shouting.

My main goal for 2008 has various steps ... I will continue to learn and develop as an Internet Marketer which will allow me to double my total income, quit my day job and be a full time Entrepreneur by the end of 2008. While doing this, I will provide people with the information and tools they need to improve their life and be more successful.

Default Write, Finish, Submit, Write, Finish, Submit

1. Finish writing "Memory of Damascus" (an adventure novel)
2. Submit previously finished novels for publication.
3. Write short stories for contests.
4. Submit non-winning contest stories to ezines.

and the biggie:
5. WORK ON MY BLOG EVERY DAY. Post something. Anything. "Hi, y'all!" Anything. Read short stories--I LIKE reading short stories, why don't I "get around to it"? Review short stories on my blog. I like doing that too. Why don't I get around to that too?

My self-talk around both the blog and the writing is that nobody is going to listen to me. If I can manage to get any attention at all it is positive, but getting that attention is impossible. Of course, it's doubly impossible if I don't submit anything.

. . . amazing how that works.

Kenneth, it's great that you are so motivated at such a young age. I am pretty sure that if you set your heart to it, you will achieve your desires.

I've just written two posts about goal setting and would like to share my insights. In the past, I've gone about goal setting, which usually involves a monetary or financial target. I've decided to do things differently for year 2008.

Hi all, I'm fairly new and I haven't contributed a whole lot yet...but I would like to get more involved with these forums! It's a great atmosphere here... thanks!

My Goals:
1. Realize my self-worth. Love and accept myself completely and fully.
2. Eliminate the belief that I need to impress people. Replace it with self-acceptance.
3. Finish my bachelor's degree. Build a great graphic design, web, and photography portfolio.
4. Develop my voice by taking voice/singing lessons.
5. Exercise 3 times a week.
6. Eliminate TV watching (except The Office).

Ensure that my goals are specific!

I mean this in the most constructive way possible; some of the goals (above) are not specific enough and are doomed to failure.

My goals. I have alot. And they are big. But not really, I'm not trying to view them as "big".

- Become completely financially free and independent.

- Move To Boulder, Colorado (I currently live in Naples, Florida but I am from Massachusetts)

- Quit smoking cigarettes (this one is actually easy for me, I seem to have a good handle on cigarettes, I have quit before for a year and went back by my own personal choice, as strange as that sounds. I honestly just enjoy a cigarette every now and then.)

- Finish writing my two film scripts (one of which I've been working on for 3 years now! I need to finish it!)

- Get equipment to record music in my house, write and record as much as I can, start a band, play songs live.

- Give back as much as possible to my loved ones, and society.

- See another country.

- Get in better shape.

- Learn how to "blow glass".

Quite true and very wise!

However not all goals are made equal. My monthly goals are much more specific than my yearly goals.

I never really have goals that start in January. I like to start them in September. However, I'd like to write them down. These should be completed by August 2009 though.

-University exchange in Korea for a year
-Learn a conversational amount of the Korean language, be able to read and write
-Obtain Judo black belt
-Brazilian Jiu Jitsu purple belt
-Fight in Spirit MC if I get laser eye surgery

OH I actually wrote some 2008 goals down as well somewhere:

Deadlift 500lbs
Squat 400lbs
Bench 300lbs
@ 200-205lb bodyweight

I've already hit all of those lifts, I just need to maintain them while rehabbing my shoulders and lowering my bodyweight.

To sell 100,000 copies of my book.
To get my new website launched by end of February.
To have a waiting list for clients by the end of June.
To run a 10k race in under 54 minutes.
To get back to the UK twice to see family and friends.
To go to St Louis and see the Rams play a home game. I'd like to say win a home game but that's not really initiated and maintained by self ;-)
To migrate from PC's to Macs.
To have a new office up and running by end of October.

My goals for 2008 are:

- dance very often, have a great vacation
I have lived in survival mode for too long, I want to have some fun next year. I picked up dancing last year and enjoyed it tremendously. I have not been on vacation for 15 years, its time to see some beautiful nature and get in touch with that part of me.

- become physically and emotionally in shape
I will need to learn how to deal with my emotions and strong reactions. After the medical operations last year I will need to become physically fit again. Home training did not work well for me and I may pick up a martial art next year since that has a spiritual effect as well.

- make that long needed career change
Not sure what the exact direction will be, but that slowly is getting clearer now. I am very determined to find a way of putting my skills in computers into something that contributes to others rather then to the bank account of the owner of the company I work for.

- meet many new people and hopefully 'the one'
Through dancing, sports, maybe Toastmasters and other social activities. I have been lonely too long, it is time to change that.

I know they are not as concrete as some other goals described in this thread. For me the first step is to define what I will work on and and then come up with a method or path to make it happen.

Bart

I made a lengthy list of goals that I wanted to achieve in 2008, everything from regular meditation to career achievements. I had a revelation this morning that until I am able to put my needs, wants and desires first above my husband, my son and work, I will have a difficult time achieving any of these. So my 2008 goal is going to be to ensure that what I need and want to do has some sort of priority in my life, at least some of the time, as opposed to being fit in wherever free time can be found in between the two full-time jobs of working/employment and mother/wife. I don't have the slightest idea yet of how I'm going to execute this--suggestions are welcome.

-My first goal would be to continue making goals inspite of any disappointments that I have to face! This year is going to be special and different.
-Study with dedication overcoming all distractions that come my way.I have to score an excellent division.

-My major problem is that for some days I'll be really motivated and work hard and then suddenly that momentum will start diminishing. And then I stop studying for days together living in an ignorant bliss.I have to curb this habit. So become consistent.

-Make atleast 12 potraits.I am good at sketching and I know I can improve if I practice. But since it takes good 3hrs to make one I procrastinate and feel guilty if I am spending my time sketching rather than studying. So I have to work on my talent no matter what.

-I've been planning to get associated with a charitable organisation but kept on thinking that since I have my job and studies I'll do that later. This time I have to give it a shot.

-I have to work on keeping my promises to myself.Because I set so many goals and take pledges to stick to them but then after afew weeks I forget them.So I have to set realistic goals so that I don't break my faith in myself.

-Write a journal daily. This will help me to keep a check on my thoughts and feelings.

-Exercise and meditate regularly.A healthy mind in a healthy body.

-Read atleast 12 good books on spiritual awareness so that I can get closer to god.
-Go out of my way to do something good for someone so as to make them happy and special. This has to be done atleast once in two to three weeks.

I plan on leaving around August when I turn 18.

My writing and drawing skills currently are either severely lacking or non-existent.

Hi all,

I am new here. For 2008, I have decided to live my life according to this great quote I found from Zig Ziglar:
“Goals are dreams we Convert to Plans and take Action to Fulfill it!”
For many years I have had many dreams and goals. Some were fulfilled, some were broken, some were left standing at the start.

The key to the whole thing was the lack of planning and then taking concrete action steps to complete the plan.

For 2008, I have now laid out a plan for the next 3 months. I aim to stick to it and fulfill my dreams.

Abundance Always.

1. Be more frugal with my money (track my expenditures, see where I nip and tuck)
2. Have my fall semester paid off before I start the fall semester.
3. Eliminate most of my credit card debt (just a couple hundred dollars, but its really hurting my credit)
4. Pay interest on my school loans.
5. Save enough for a decent birthday vacation cruise for my mother and I for August.
