Default Increased focus, heart of the rose?

I recently read that one way to increase your ability to focus is to take something such as a rose and just focus on it, meditate over it, for a period of time. You are supposed to think of nothing else, and not let your mind wander. The time you do it can vary, from say 15min. to like an hour.
I suppose this is very similar to the technique of staring at a candle flame I've read about here.
I have a lot of trouble focusing. I let my mind wander constantly while in class or reading something for homework. Would this technique likely improve my ability to pay attention in class and focus in general?

YES. I'd say focusing on any object for decent period of time helps with focus. It's a great exercise.

This is a nice post and thank you for bringing it to this forum. I began reading further and came up with a nice exercise which is partially related:

How a Single Candle Flame Can Improve Your Life

Thanks once again,

yes

Why not begin with two minutes and slowly increase the time?

Maybe it would also be helpful for you to read The Power of Now

Good question indeed
