Default What is your personality type? Take the test and share.

We were talking about Erin's personality type on the (Myers-Briggs) test results. Erin scored "ENFJ - The Mentor". Steve previously scored "ENTJ - The Chief". I thought, wouldn't it be interesting to know what other forumite's personality test scores are? Could help us better understand each other and would be fun to see what other forum member's personality type are.

If you haven't taken the test yet, here are two tests to quickly figure out what your personality type. They take 10 minutes or less on each of them. The second one requires a quick registration, but it only takes 30 seconds or so to register.

1st one: Online test based on Jung - Myers-Briggs typology

2nd one: Personality Test and Types (Myers-Briggs, Jungian Psychological Typology)

After you take the test, post on here what your personality type.

My personality type is INTJ - "The Strategist". What is yours?

ps: I put this thread under Personal Effectiveness because knowing more about our personalities helps us become more effective

I've done the MBTI a couple of times over a number of years and always came up with the same result. The last time I did it was in my Masters program and the test was very thorough, involving hundreds of questions and dozens of pages of follow-up and feedback. The results were exacty the same as the online test: ISTJ - the duty fulfiller.

Well, as another INTJ, it looks like I am in good company. Going from the list of 'famous INTJs' at the bottom of the page, we have such luminaries as Thomas Jefferson, Sir Isaac Newton, Gandalf the Grey and Hanibal Lechter to count among us as well. I'm not too sure about that last one, although I am fond of Chianti...

I got the INFJ Councellor. The second one I got the Dreamer, no surprise there.

Please tell me: what do you get out of distinguishing your personality type? Is it just for fun? Will you use it to help determine your life purpose? Does it trigger epiphanies for you?

Mine came up: ENFP The Advocate.

Thanks for the link, my search hadn't come up with it.

Cool! It listed that only about 1.5% of the population are INTJ like us (we're the next to smallest group). Interesting though is that on the link that openeyes linked to is that a full 14.50% of those who answered in this forum were INTJ.

The description for INTJ fitted me like a glove. Some of the stuff I thought was "me-only" turns out to apply to those of my personality type .

First time I took the test a few months ago, the result was ISFP. Now I always get INFP, the idealist, the dreamer, the healer.

edit: the S in my ISFP was very weak (1%). Now the N is between 50 and 100% depending on my mood, so I guess INFP is more accurate. I and P vary between 89 and 100% and F between 75 and 100%.

Isn't that interesting that although INFJ is "the rarest of types", it's among the most common of types that responded to the poll here of pavliniacs.

Yup, 1% of the population, but 15.04% of those who responded on the poll.

Some of each, I suppose. Apparently I'm not as weird as I thought I was.

But there's more to it than just finding out whether or not there are others in the same boat. When my I (introversion) was confirmed the last time I took this test, it actually took a lot of heat off me. Thing is, while I enjoy company and parties and whatnot, it takes a lot of energy for me. After about an hour or so at a party I begin to wilt. At first, I didn't really know why, but now that I have a better understanding of where I get my energy, I can manage situations like that better.

Whether or not it can be used to determine a life purpose is maybe a bit of a stretch, but let's say that a strong E like yourself is considering a career in, say, computer programming. That may not be the best choice because you may find that sitting in front of a computer all day without too much interaction with others might be extremely draining and exhausting. For a strong introvert, though, that may be a more suitable career path.

Bear in mind that these are tendencies only, not hard-and-fast rules.

I swing both ways -- am just as energized by being alone with my concerns as I am at the center of attention at a party. I could easily see coming up as either an I or an E depending on my mood. Maybe we need a new category: Ambiverted. or Omniverted? Interestingly, what I do for a living swings both ways, too -- sometimes I'm all alone with my computer and phone, and sometimes I'm the Empress of the Event. That's ideal.

The other categories swing for me, too: S/N and T/F. But Perceiving wins out over Judging every time.

That's why these things are measured as tendencies. Like you, my mood can profoundly affect whether I want to be Mr Life Of The Party or not. Context is everything. Whether I'm hungry or thirsty or tired or upset or energized makes a lot of difference in how I perceive things and how I get my energy. But for me personally, my general tendency leans towards introversion.

For myself: To know myself much better, to figure out what career I want to go into, what will keep me fullfilled. I did have some ephiphanies last night when I saw the results. Confirmed that some of the things I saw as very peculiar in myself, are actually just things about my personality type. Things like the ability to be a very good leader when I want to, and yet prefering to work on my own.

For this thread: To learn other people's personality type and better understand better their point of view. By better understanding other people's point of view, I can better understand why they write as they do in this forum. I like to understand why people think the way they do. And also because it's fun to share like this and see how we are!

I think some people use chicken innards too. (yuck )

The MBTI, though, is a pretty well-established tool with some pretty strong background in psychological profiling that's been tested repeatedly. Can't say the same for astrology... or chicken innards, for that matter.

Ah ok! Well, I know there has to be some validity to this personality test because the explanation said things about myself that I knew about myself, but didn't think anyone else in the world shared.

I completely get what you're saying, and I do not question the validity of the test. I just want to point out that astrologers (and, I presume, chicken gizzard gazers) are every bit as convinced of the validity of their pursuits. Not that they're invalid either, mind you. I just find it really interesting how we manipulate symbols to explain ourselves to ourselves. We're interesting creatures, and it's fun!
