Hi there, I have a really hard time getting up at the right time. I've been experimenting with different alarm times, but it doesn't really seem to help. Now, this might sound a little silly. But I thought of something, maybe it's all psychologic? You see, my alarm clock doesn't display the right time. Somehow I developed a liking to have my alarm clock showing the time 40 minutes in advance (I guess I like to have time left). Thus, when I set my alarm clock to wake me up at 06:30AM, I actually set it to 07:10. Could this be an important factor?

I've never quite understood this idea. I figure if a clock isn't showing the right time, it's not really of much use other than maybe as a paperweight of a doorstop. I tried a similar thing when I was a teenager as a way to sort of fool myself into getting up earlier... but of course it didn't work. I knew that the clock was set fast so I'd just hit the snooze button regardless of what the numbers said. Now, I can't really speak to how to get out of bed in the morning because since my teen years it's never really been a problem for me. But I have learned that an apple in the morning is just as, or more, invigorating than a strong cup of coffee. Not sure why... could be the acids, or maybe it's just that wonderful crunch. Regardless, it helps me get my day rolling. Cheaper, too, and no fear of coffee stains on my white shirt!

Try sleeping in multiples of ninety minutes, or if that doesn't work, try increasing/reducing the amount of time. I find I sleep best in 85 minute cycles. I've tried setting the clock ahead, and it jerks you for a second until you realize that you set it forward. Plus it's based on fear - I find it easier to get up if I motivate myself by pleasure, for example by choosing something I want to do in the morning and doing it. Give yourself a reason to get out of bed and you will.

I never set alarm clock to get up. For more then one year my body know when to get up. To do this, you need to train yourself. To start you can do like I did: set time for 15 minutes later, but set your inner body alarm to get up at time. After weeks of such training you will be able not to set alarm click at all.
