Default breaking unproductive habits?

I masturbate way too often.

I guess ultimately we are all in charge of ourselves. A part of me likes the pleasure and a part of me knows I should make better use of my time - any tips?

Try replacing your bad habits with good habits. I have a lot of down time at night, and that's when I'm prone to being sucked in by bad habits. Lately, I've been replacing mind-numbing TV with a late night walk with my dog. Since I've made this a habit, I don't question it at all, I just do it. The funny thing is that the long walks give me time to think, and they often encourage me to continue my productive behavior by writing after the walk. Writing is another good habit I'd like to get into.

Be aware of your triggers -for me, it's the large amount of time I have to myself at night - and eliminate them or steer that energy in a different direction.
