Well, we're thirteen hours into October and no one has made a thread, so here it is. My goals for Setember were: 1. Take fish oil: Success. 2. Recover from depression: Reasonable success. 3. Meet new people: Fail. 4. Read The Odyssey: Success. 5. Jog every day: Fail. 6. Enjoy life more: Some success. My goals for October are: 1. No coffee until October 27. (Cancelled) 2. Finish the PhotoReading course. I'm on disc 2 right now. 3. Ace all of my midterm exams. They should be fairly easy. 4. Read five books on my free time. At least one should be academic in nature (but not for a class), and another should be an unfamiliar subject. 5. Join a new club or organization, here on campus or just somewhere in Chattanooga. 6. Stop being a perfectionist. I'll try to make this compatible with goal #3. 7. Exercise every day. I failed this one last month, yet it is of the utmost importance. 8. Add structure to at least four hours of my free time every day. I tried Neil Fiore's 'Unschedule' and it didn't really work, so I tried scheduling in work along with leisure. Well, I quickly found out that I can't handle that much structure when I am by myself, so for now I'm just doing four hours a day. 9. I am going to try a semi-pesco-vegan diet (if one can call that 'vegan' at all). I'm not going to read labels or anything, and I'll still take vitamins with gelatin, but other than that I'm going for mainly plant foods with some fish. (Cancelled) 10. Read a banned book. My local library is celebrating Banned Book Week, and I want the most scandalous one I can find. 11. Be treated for obsessive-compulsive disorder as soon as possible. I am sure there will be more. October is going to be fun. Last edited by The David; 10-02-2007 at 01:09 AM. Reason: More goals. |

i'll play, too! my goals are: 1) work on my website project every day, even if it's only 15 minutes working through tutorials or making phone calls -- every single day. 2) continue to eat well (beans + fruit + veg + nuts and that's about it). 3) do something joyful every day, whether it's singing, riding my bike, writing, dancing. (note to self: "something joyful" does not involve a tv or a computer.) 4) drink alcohol no more than twice a week. i actually have a game going with a friend of mine. we both put up $50 and if one of us doesn't make our goal (hers is to work out every day, mine is to work on my website every day), the other gets the $$$. i already lost $25 so now we're doing double or nothing. i am enthused! |

I got two out of three last month. Did the running. Did the cleaning. Veganism? FAIL. This month: 1) I will eat breakfast and take my vitamins every morning. 2) I will drink no more than one more soda per day. 3) I'll tell the fiance how much I love him every day. I forget to tell him how great he is. |

I might sound like a Long-Play record from old days on loop now but I tell my plan as shortly as posible... 1) Get up at 8, go to bed 12:45 2) Study for 1 hour 45 minutes 3) Eat more fruit/veggies according to the plate-modell (Tallriksmodellen in Swedish) and eating more fruit in general each day instead of candy... 4) Take a 30 minutes walk in the Nordic Walking style each day... Point four can only be broken if I get a bad flu or if the weather is rotten like a 4 week old slice of pizza... Love Leelene |

Scratch the coffee goal...I am dying from withdrawal and it is midterm week. Also, it's the only thing that can help me until I am actually treated for ADHD/Depression. Also, the diet thing is not a good idea. I am going to try to get on medication and I do not want a confounding variable, since I'm not entirely convinced that PCV is the ideal diet for me. 1) My primary goal is to lose 10 lbs of fat this month or in other words, get below 10% body fat. I'm not sure how realistic this is, but I'm just going for it. 2) Work every major muscle group every week. This will require going to the gym 3-4 times a week. 3) Run at least 40 minutes a week. 4) Eat reasonable most days. Spike calories once a week. 5) Drink absolutely no alcohol except for one planned occasion. 6) Work on a project for at least 15 minutes a day. Write down how much you worked on it. |

I'll restart my old trial from september. If anyone is interested, an analysis of why I failed and what I'll do to ensure success this month is in my last post in the feedback thread for the september challenge. |

I was waiting for this thread since i got on lastnight, yay. 1. Excersize at least 1 hour everyday (before work) 2. Stick to healthy eating habits (keep my FitDay up to date and follow carefully, drink my daily water and continue my vitamins) 3. Work 5 shifts per week and get in by 7pm. (this one is going to be tough) 4. Get to the library at least once a week 5. Make and stick to a budget 6. Go out and party at least one time this month 7. Dress up hot for no reason at all for my husband (I'm a dancer and have to do this already everynight I work, sometimes I forget he doesn't get see me like that often) I think that is enough for now. I have been working on these things(as well as others) since June and each month gets better, this will help to keep me on track. |

This is my first time trying this in such an official manner, but I am intrigued, so I will try! 1.) Exercise every day. Shouldn't be too hard since I pretty much do this already. The challenge is in the fact that it is getting darker and colder here so it is much more comfortable to stay in bed where it is warm! 2.) Eat 7 servings of fruit and vegetables every day. 3.) Read something non-fiction everyday. (15 minutes) 4.) Play with the kids, board games or sports, at least three times each week. (This one gets difficult because I work 6 days a week, so when I get home at night I need to do housework and help them with homework etc, so there often time isn't time leftover for much else.) 5.) Spend at least half the day on Sundays just relaxing. 6.) Start practicing the piano again. (20 minutes a day?) Last edited by Honeywith4bees; 10-02-2007 at 03:49 PM. Reason: spelling and addition of a goal |

I didn't make any goals for September. Felt like I needed a break. Here's my goals for October: 1.) Save up enough money to pay rent when I get my apartment 2.) I accidentally made out with a friend of mine. I fell a bit in love. I need to get over it. 3.) Workout at least once every day. Lifting weights, cardio. Anything counts 4.) Keeping my bedroom clutterless 5.) Practice on my guitar every day 6.) Eat less, more healthy foods. 7.) Meditate. 8.) Wake up and stay up earlier. 9.) Quit procrastinating by: 10.) Timing things I want to do. Alarm clock>1hr while cleaning the house. Alarm clock>30mins while playing the guitar, meditating or doing workout. Thats it for now. I will update my progress throughout the month. -Jan |

My goal for october is simple: no sugar. at all. I'm a real sugar addict, I just cannot eat sugar moderately. When I start, I get terrible headaches if I stop. I tried to overcome this addiction many times and always failed. since sunday I didn't eat any sugar, I don't know how this could happen, but it just happened. So I decide now to use this exceptional opportunity and stop eating sugar! That's it now! bye bye sugar! |

OOOOOOOOOOOOk! Let's seeeeee! 1. The most important thing. Finish my final exam, and get the "computer engineer" degree. Learn at least 20 hours for the final exam, no matter what! 2. Don't eat sugar, except 2 times a day in a coffee. Eat only musli biscuit. Next month I will go back to eat candies, this is just a test. 3. Sleep for 8 hours and 45 minutes every night. Mostly! Try not to sleep afternoon. Get up at 10:40, and gradually move it to 10:00 until the end of the month. 4. Copy all my cd-s on DVD-s. I got probably 100-150 cds. This is going to be boooring! 5. Send a catalog to my customers and arrange my front page with special offers. Do it decently. 6. Play guitar at least 4 hours daly. One hour of improvisation, at least. One hour of practicing my tunes for the site(or recording it with a camera), at least. Two hours preparing tunes for the gigs, at least. Only exceptions can be made due to my final exam. In that case, I will make it up until the end of the month. 7. Exercise two days a week for 25 minutes. 8. Do not make big brakes during a work. Only exceptions are girls. 9. Write down transcriptions for my site. 10. Do not waste money. Don't buy any magazine except "Svet Kompjutera" and "Yellow Cab". Try to keep it organized. 11. Try to prepare food my self, instead of buying it. Especially the fish and soya. I say "try" because I am lazy about this stuff, although I LOVE to eat. 12. Find THE girlfriend! It look it's too much, but....I will look it as a challenge. Good Luck everyone! |

Well, good luck out there with such a variety of goals for October. I read that a baby smiles at least 400 times a day and adults around 14 times a day. My goal for Oct is to smile a lot more everyday, smile at others when I pass them on the street, and laugh a lot more too. Smiling is contagious.

I found this site back in January when I did a search for "brown rice". At the time I was a pack a day smoker and have been for years. Through various posts members have shared here, along with Steve's blogs which have inspired me, and my own self-discipline I have quit my pack a day habit (in February) and have been training for a Marathon since April. My number one goal in October is to successfully complete the Marine Corp Marathon in Washington, DC on October 28th. |
