I haven't had a chance to read it yet. But, I've discovered a great tool, from Franklin Covey, to help you build a mission statement.

Finding my life's purpose clarified a lot of things for me. Not only does it give me an extremely useful measurement for making decisions about how to spend my time and efforts, but it also improved my self-confidence. (Not that I lacked confidence in any obvious way before, but now I have a calm, quiet sureness that wasn't there before.)

It's definitely worth doing the exercise that Steve describes.

Kaspian,

If you don't mind my asking, how long did it take for you to discover your life's purpose through doing that exercise?

Cheers,

Rahul

Adolf Hitler decided that he had more than one life purpose. I believe that everyone has the same life purpose that is built in. The Dalai Lama says that the purpose of life is to be happy. I also feel that your purpose should also include the fact that you will someday die. Here is a short article about you and your purpose: What is Enlightenment: Is It the Purpose of Human Life

It has been a while, but if I remember correctly, it was somewhere between 15 and 30 minutes. It really didn't take long. Once I got it, I probably spend another half an hour writing about how my various interests fit into it.

It took me over 2 years of constant journaling to really find out. And I didn't start to cry like Steve did, instead I instantly just knew it is it and and I felt like a long row of open questions inside me just bowed together to one answer. Since that moment I have that calm sureness the other poster talked about.
