Default James Ray - for real or anothher sales pitch?

So I went to a James Ray “seminar” after reading about it on his website. I first learned of James Ray on this website from Steve’s interview with him, so that picked my interest and I liked what I saw on his site so I decided to attend. Basically his talk revolves around the usual goal achievement, positive thinking, law of attraction type of stuff that is so popular in this website and recently popularized by “The Secret”.

The thing is he talks about attracting negative stuff and scientific proof for the law of attraction and how we need to follow what he has discovered in his x years of study and research and it all culminates in him basically saying that for you to discover how to do it you need to attend his weekend seminar at $1200 a pop!!! So basically his whole talk was an infomercial to try and convince you that if you are truly committed to achieving your goals you need to attend this weekend. He also tried to sell his other books and audiotapes in case you could not attend the weekend.

So basically I just got the feeling that he is just a sales guy trying to push his product and personal development wasn’t really his main goal.

Has anybody else had this experience with him or attended his weekend and knows if it works or not?

PS - the kicker was that at the end I went up to him to thank him for the talk and the useful tips and somehow the conversation led to him asking me if I was really committed to my goals, to which I answered yes, and then he asked if i had signed up for his weekend thing, to which I said no, then he somehow implied that since I had not signed up for the weekend jig that I was not really committed to achieving my goals. Yiikes!!

I expect speakers to do a bit of upselling in their progams, but such manipulative hard selling is a real turn-off. I really dislike it when speakers try to use their charisma to stick their hands deeper into your pockets.

The 'Secret' franchise is quickly losing what little credibility it had. The Abraham-Hicks series was really all the LoA needed in order to be discovered, and things like this, and the recent case with that other guy (I forget his name, sorry) are just making it look like New Age nonsense.

I hope this does not discourage people from authentic personal growth. Enough people are skeptical about it already.
