Have you ever tried to meet up with someone who you admire, but don't know personally, in real life? I was listening to a podcast from Robin Sharma called "Get Brilliant At Asking" where he tells a story of being in New York city for one day and trying to meet Scott Degarmo (editor of Success magazine at the time). He has to sell himself to the receptionist and 2 assistants before being given 10 seconds to leave Scott a voicemail message. And guess what? Scott called him back, they had lunch, and are now good friends. As Robin said, "If you try, you might get exactly what you want". I have someone I am going to try to meet, but first I would like some more inspiration. Anyone have any good stories? |

Hi Peter-- I've got a great story for you. About 6 months ago, I had a great business idea. Without getting into too much detail, the idea kept leading me in the direction of Deepak Chopra-- I had to somehow meet Deepak Chopra, and pitch him this concept...and I knew if I could just get in front of him I would get out of what what I intended. Anyway, the day after this realization hit home I got an email from an organization called World Wellness which said they were having their next event in Austin in two weeks, and their keynote speaker was...Deepak Chopra. I booked my flights and hotel immediately, and went down there. I spent 12 hours at the event, and when Deepak came on at 7:30pm I hadn't counted on 5,000 people from Austin showing up. My plan was to meet him during the booksigning after his talk....all these people wouldn't stay around until 10:30 and wait to get a book signed by Deepak, right? Wrong. But I remained patient, and as I approached hid signing tabel at 11:30pm (I had now been at this conference center for 15 hours, had flown to Austin on a whim, etc...) I felt myself backing out. He wasn't talking to anyone....just signing books. BUT, at the right moment I built the courage and said what I had to say....and he asked me my name, and then signed my book and gave me his personal email address in the book, and told me to email him Monday! It was AWESOME; and his input really helped me out and I have remained in close contact with him since. SO you CAN DO IT! Hope this helps.... |

AtriumGuy: what an inspiring story Re trying to meet John: he emailed me back a few hours after I contacted him inviting me to lunch tomorrow. Unfortunately I can't make it then, but I have his cell number and we have agreed to meet another time. Yes... it can be done! |

Hey Peter-- the idea entailed creation of a conference in "wellness"; Deepak is involved with something called The Alliance for a New Humanity, which I now do some mktg consulting work for. Its funny, I recently submitted an article to your site's carnival! Hopefully I can get in there....keep up the great work man! |

One person I am dying to meet is the comedian Steven Wright. He is one of my personal heroes. Laid back, bizarre, terribly introverted, but so hilarious and insightful. One of these days, I might go up to Massachusetts and knock on his door. Just to see what happens.
