I am 17 and don’t have the slightest idea on what I want to do. My grades are not good because I don’t feel that I need to work towards anything and I am not good at academics. My grandma hammers my brains with her "become somebody" crap. I say crap because it’s no use since I don’t know what the hell I want to become so she’s just making it worse. There is nothing I want to do and nobody can talk me into anything and I’m not going to know until I get out of high school and then it will be too late. I’m not taking any personality tests or doing the purpose in twenty minutes because that stuff is no good. Any suggestions because I’m super worried and annoyed and depressed.

Sounds pretty normal to me. Whatever direction you choose, just know that it is not permanent so you can relax. High schools and colleges make it seem like you need to have your whole life planned at your age and nothing usually goes to plan like that. Try just going with something you like and want to learn more about, the career and money will follow. Average American goes through 3 career changes in their lifetime. At worst, you will be well rounded

First off... relax a bit. Second... why wouldn't you want to work hard in school? No matter what you decide to do with your life, having good grades will keep doors open to you for when you do decide. A good education is a key that unlocks many doors. It doesn't matter if you don't know what career you would like to have. What matters is that you work toward a general education so that you'll have the basics already completed. Then once you decide what you want to do with the rest of your life.. then you can focus on more intensive studies, or what ever your path dictates that you need to accomplish. Are you not worth a good education? The simple fact that you are concerned tells me that you are. Work hard... study hard.. and the rest will be available to you. I am 32 and I still don't know what I want to be when I grow up I know this reply sounds very typical of a teacher. But I am not writing as a teacher. I am writing as a person who had to give up on a college education, and I am now trying to go back and continue where I left off.... not so easy with a full time job and a family to take care of. Please don't give up on yourself before you've even started. You don't need to have a specific direction to go in.... just go forward.

a) I don't want to be talked into anything, even so staying the way I am makes me unhappy, but please help me to not feel bad about being unhappy. b) Please talk me into something.
