Default Personal Branding

Hi !
Anyone is into this Personal Branding? I've read about it and done some research over the internet, and found it is fascinating...
I used to work for big companies where branding is important for the business, etc etc...
And with the personal branding, a human being can be 'branded' the similar ways, to boost his/her confidence, effectiveness, and most importantly to goals in life !

Hope more sharing...

That is quite interesting whykay... I had never hear of "Personal Branding" before... thanks for bringing it up...

In case anyone else did not know about Personal Branding... here is what Wikipedia has to say about it...

"Personal branding is the process whereby people and their careers are marketed as brands. It has been noted that while previous self-help management techniques were about self-improvement, the personal branding concept suggests instead that success comes from self-packaging. The term is thought to have been first used and discussed in an 1997 article by Tom Peters.

"The makeup of a personal brand has four main elements: personality, appearance, competencies, and differentiation. An individuals total perceived value takes into account these elements and is considered to be his or her core message or elevator pitch to an audience.

It is common to divide branding into tangible and intangible. Tangible branding involves associating an individual's name with some specific advantage that they are presumed to offer, while intangible branding involves creating a more general positive feeling about them."

Yes - indeed Personal Branding is amazing. I read somewhere that the Intercontinental hotel is embarking on Personal Branding.

According to the management, the overall organization brand is build from the personal branding. In other word, the personal branding is the nucleus of the growth to the overall company brand.
Imagine this, you walk into a hotel, and the bellboy or the chambermaid did something that offended you, and what is your reaction ? Do you immediately blame the staff or the hotel ? I am sure that 80% of people will say "OMG, I'm not going to this hotel anymore...service sucks...this is the first and last time"...

If we reverse the situation, say you get a good service,...you will definitely come back to the hotel over and over again. Now,..is that an example of company branding has to start with personal branding first ?

Your thought ?

I've always been an advocate of personal branding. Networking can take you so far in most career fields. I really am a firm believer of "it's not what you know, it's who you know."

Posh Spice Victoria Beckham (wife of footballer David) grew up with the dream of being a brand name just like Persil or any other big product. It's certainly worked for her. That is despite lack of looks, talent, real personality.

I must admit that I am intrigued by the idea. I will do some more research and focus on creating a brand for myself. Thanks!

Being doing some research works around, and the steps for Personal Branding will be loosely like:

Extract / Explore - find your passion, skills, strengths, weaknesses, etc
Express - How do you communicate your brand to your targetted audience (could be your clients, bosses etc)
Exude - Show in everyway you can who you are (just like the big companies showing their brand - the Swoosh of Nike, the Arch of McD, etc)
Examine - Assess and audit on how your brand is doing...

My 4 E's of Personal Branding....hope you can try it out...and get some real life examples here...

Thumbs up Personal Brand Marketing podBlog

Hi guys:

I'm happy to see you guys chatting about Personal Branding. Its especially useful for self-employed professionals - like lawyers, accountants, financial planners, real estate, and health professionals. They have to market their expertise, reputation, and eventually create a business that isn't dependent on their personal time.

Personal Brand Marketing leverages their persona, but grows beyond just who we are. Its fun & fascinating.

I actually write 3 personal brand marketing tips every week on my podBlog, at PersonalBrandMarketing.com, if you are interested. Very few of us actually operate in this niche marketing world - especially for entrepreneurs. But the concept and the interest is growing like wildfire.

Hi Vik,

Nice to know someone is actually into Personal Branding as well. I was so interested in the topic, and did quitea bit of research over the internet. And now, with the information, I have been going around and spreading the info to my clients ( By the way, I am a trainer / speaker located in Malaysia)

I had just recently delivered a speech on Personal Brand in the SOHO conference to a group of SOHO business owners..

SOHO Conference

Maybe one of the days I can invite you over to Malaysia to give a talk on Personal Branding..

Would i put my personal branding on my business card?
or is it something that i would say to anchor personal goals?
